
Redhawks Finish Second At Missouri Invitational

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Southeast Missouri's men's and women's track and field teams each finished second at the Missouri Invitational Friday night.
Continuing her success from the Eastern Illinois Early Bird meet, Ayonna Cartwright claimed another first-place finish in the 60m dash with a season-best time of 7.60.
After finishing second in the 200m (25.44), Cartwright appeared in the 4x400m relay. She joined Cheyanne Tunti, Jovannie Spears and Miya Dorsey to claim second with a time of 3:59.10.
Tunti and Dorsey competed in the 400m dash as well, taking fourth (57.26) and sixth (58.44), respectively.
Five Redhawks went on the finish in the top 10 of the women's mile run. Angela Sumner led Southeast, placing second with the time of 5:05.59. Others who competed included Kaitlyn Shea (5th), Megan Parks (7th), Anna Thomas (8th) and Natalie Kopplin (9th). All would return for strong performances in the 3000m, highlighted by Sumner claiming second and Shea getting third.
Freshman Aaliah Herron won the shot put (13.43m) and finished third in the weight throw (14.90m). Catherine Hopkins garnered a top five finish in the shot put as well, securing fifth with a toss of 11.30m.
Junior Abi Sowash made her season debut with a second-place finish in the high jump (1.61m). Sidne' Williamson (9th), Mikayla Logan (10th) and Kayla Heidelberg (11th) all competed in the long jump event.
On the men's side, Chris Martin started his 2016 campaign with a win in the triple jump (15.52m).
Christian Locke tied for third in the pole vault with a mark of 4.75m. Dylan Rush and Duncan Ross also competed, collecting seventh and eighth-place finishes, respectively.
Jason Walker took seventh in both the weight throw (15.50m) and shot put (14.44m). Stephen Zagurski also competed, also finishing seventh in the shot put and placing sixth in the weight throw (15.63m).
The men's team shined on the track with six top three finishers.
Marc Maton captured first in the mile run with a season-best of 4:12.45. Maton also grabbed the top finish for the Redhawks in the 3000m, taking fourth with a time of 8:43.28.
In the 400m Dash, Jarred Pasley and Jordan Barber were first (49.03) and third (50.27).
The 800m saw Kameron Long capture second-place (1:55.55) and Cole Davis place fourth (1:57.21).
Brannon Wright finished third in the 200m dash (22.74) and helped Southeast win the 4x400m relay. Wright teamed up with Barber, Pasely and Brandon Chunn to clock a time of 3:18.36.
Southeast's men's and women's track and field teams return to action at the Indiana Gladstein Invitational on
Jan. 22-23.
