Southeast and MSU rescheduled a doubleheader for this week after their initial matchup on Feb. 28 was wiped out due to inclement weather.
The Bears mark the third in-state foe the Redhawks face this season. Southeast is currently 0-3 against Missouri schools after falling to Saint Louis (Feb. 27) and dropping a doubleheader to then-No. 19 Missouri (Mar. 11).
Southeast enters the week looking to snap a five-game losing streak. The Redhawks, currently 11th in the Ohio Valley Conference standings, are led by outfielder
Kayla Fortner. Fortner, a two-time OVC Player of the Week this year, is second in the league with a .426 batting average through 22 starts. She also leads the OVC in RBI (31) and is tied for second in home runs (9). Fortner ranks among the top-20 in the nation in RBI per game (13th), home runs per game (15th) and slugging percentage (17th).
As a team, the Redhawks are third in the OVC in hitting with a .297 clip. Southeast's batting average is below .300 for just the second time this season and first since Feb. 14.
MSU won five of its last eight contests and is coming off a 2-1 series win at Indiana State. The Bears rank second in the Missouri Valley Conference in pitching with a 3.52 ERA and 151 strikeouts. Chelsea Jones is second in the conference in ERA (3.11) and tied for fifth in wins (8), while Erin Struemph is among league leaders in ERA (5th, 3.17), opposing batting average (6th, .274), innings pitched (9th, 90.2), strikeouts (5th, 83), wins (t9th, 6) and saves (1st, 5).
Southeast is 4-23 all-time against MSU during its NCAA Division I era, last beating the Bears, 3-2, in 2013.
