Busy WeekSoutheast's spring break is winding down. The Redhawks have eight games scheduled this week. Southeast hosted UT Martin (Mar. 17) and Indiana State (Mar. 18) in doubleheaders. The Redhawks split their Ohio Valley Conference opening twin bill against UTM and dropped both games against the Sycamores.
Series HistoryThe Redhawks meet Tennessee Tech for the 81st time in their Division I era Saturday. TTU holds a 43-37 lead in the all-time series dating back to 1992. The Golden Eagles have a six-game winning streak against Southeast. The Redhawks are 3-31 against Jacksonville State since moving to the NCAA Division I ranks. Southeast lost its last five meetings with JSU. The Redhawks last beat JSU in Jacksonville during the 2011 campaign.
Weather IntrudesSoutheast has been limited to 15 games due to inclement weather this season. The Redhawks 15 games are the fewest any Ohio Valley Conference school has played at this point in the year. Southeast had a total of 11 cancellations since the start of the 2015 campaign.
Fortner on a TearOutfielder
Kayla Fortner is on a tear in her first year at Southeast this season. Fortner leads the Ohio Valley Conference in batting average (.463, among individuals who played a minimum of 15 games), RBI (24) and home runs (7). She ranked third in the nation in home runs per game and 12th in RBI per contest through Mar. 15. Fortner also boasts a 1.049 slugging percentage, ranking sixth nationally in that category.

Kayla Fortner's team-high 19 hits this season, 10 have gone for extra bases. Fortner homered in each of her first four games of the season and leads Southeast with seven this year. Most recently, she doubled in three of her last four starts and added eight RBI during that stretch. Fortner reached base in 14 of her 15 games this season and owns a team-best .564 on-base percentage. She needs just three more home runs to join Southeast's all-time single-season leaders.
Southeast Leads OVC in HittingSoutheast currently leads the Ohio Valley Conference with a .317 batting average through 15 games this season. The Redhawks have pounded out double-digit hits four times, with a season-high 18 at Grambling State (Feb. 15). Southeast and Murray State (.306) are the only OVC teams hitting over .300 this year.

First OVC WinSoutheast gave
Mark Redburn his first career Ohio Valley Conference win when it beat UT Martin, 9-6, on Feb. 17. The Redhawks snapped an eight-game losing streak in their all-time series against UTM. It marked the first time Southeast beat the Skyhawks since 2011. The Redhawks improved to 15-9 in Ohio Valley Conference openers.
Six to GoFirst-year Southeast head coach
Mark Redburn is closing in on 100 NCAA Division I career wins. Prior to taking over the Redhawks helm, Redburn spent five seasons as head coach at the University of Evansville. He presently has 94 victories as an NCAA Division I head coach. Redburn got his first win at Southeast when the Redhawks beat Grambling State, 11-7, on Feb. 14 at the Mardi Gras Classic in Monroe, La.
Extra BasesSoutheast matched a season-high seven extra base hits in its win over UT Martin on Mar. 17. The Redhawks had two home runs, four doubles and a triple in that game.
Kayla Fortner narrowly missed hitting for the cycle, going 3-for-3 with two runs scored, three RBI, a double and a home run against the Skyhawks. Southeast had an extra base hit in each of its last five games.
Krumrey Pitches Complete GameFreshman
Madeline Krumrey became the first Redhawk pitcher to throw a complete game this season. Krumrey recorded a season-high four strikeouts in eight innings during a loss to Indiana State (Mar. 18). She leads Southeast in strikeouts (20), ERA (4.72), wins (2) and innings pitched (46) this season.
Tough to StrikeoutAs a team, the Redhawks have struck out just 45 times in 15 games this season. Southeast is averaging just three strikeouts per game, as its 45 strikeouts are fewest in the Ohio Valley Conference.
Alexis Anderson and
Lindsey Patterson have struck out only once in 43 or more at-bats this year.
McDannold Playing StrongFreshman outfielder
Taylor McDannold is having a strong rookie season at Southeast. A native of Rocheport, Mo., McDannold is fourth on the team with a .373 batting average through 15 starts. She leads the team in doubles (6), ranks second in runs scored (8) and is third in RBI (8). McDannold is one of four Redhawks who have started every game, along with
Kayla Fortner,
Lindsey Patterson and
Savannah Carpenter.
Young PitchingThree underclassmen, including sophomores
Aubrey Denno and
Keaira Schilling, and freshman
Madeline Krumrey form Southeast's pitching staff this season. Krumrey, has started seven of her 10 appearances and leads the Redhawks in ERA (4.72), strikeouts (20), wins (2), starts (7) and innings pitched (46.0). Schilling also has two wins and tops the team with 12 appearances.
