CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri (2-3) will look to keep its winning streak alive when it heads to the Southeastern Louisiana Lion Classic Scramble this weekend.
Southeast will play four games in three days, facing host Southeastern Louisiana (4-7) and regional-rival Saint Louis (4-4) Friday, Ohio Valley Conference foe UT Martin (5-4) Saturday and Southeastern Conference member Arkansas (4-0) Sunday.
The Redhawks were initially scheduled to play at the All-Missouri Cancer Classic in Springfield, Mo., this week, but the tournament was cancelled due to weather. Southeast has not played since beating Grambling State, 10-8, in the final day of the Mardi Gras Classic on Feb. 15.
Freshman
Taylor McDannold currently leads the Redhawks, hitting .667 with four runs scored, four doubles and three RBI through five starts this season.
Savannah Carpenter follows with a .538 batting average.
Outfielder
Kayla Fortner, who was named OVC Player of the Week on Feb. 16, is also off to a strong start. Fortner hit .474 with six runs scored, four home runs and 13 RBI in her first five games at Southeast. She homered during each of her first four starts of the season and hit a grand slam in Southeast's win over Grambling State on Feb. 14.
