Track and Field Has Split Weekend Ahead

War Eagle Invitational Meet Central | Kansas Relays Meet Central
CPAE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The Southeast Missouri track and field team will compete in its first split meet of the season beginning with the Kansas Relays on Thursday. On Friday and Saturday, the squad will be split between the Kansas Relays and the War Eagle Invitational.
The distance runners for the Redhawks will travel to Lawrence, Kan., to compete in events on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The rest of the squad travels to the War Eagle Invitational in Auburn, Ala., to compete on Friday and Saturday.
The Redhawks are coming off an outstanding performance at the Tennessee Relays powered by Sea Ray where Southeast claimed the top spot on the Ohio Valley Conference performance list in eight events. In all, the Redhawks own the top spot in 12 events.
Brian Grote earned the OVC Field Athlete of the Week after claiming the top spot in the OVC with a throw of 65.43 meters. Blake Smith had a strong showing at the Tennessee Relays claiming a third place finish in the 100-meter dash in 10.42 seconds and a second place finish in the long jump with a leap of 7.69 meters. Bother marks are tops in the OVC.
Courtney Gapelu and Kevin Farley each set the top mark in the shot put. Gapelu's toss went 15.42 meters while Farley's traveled 17.49 meters. Shon Kyle set the top discus mark with a throw of 53.01 meters while Reggie Miller had a triple jump of 15.58 meters.
Bethany Pfeiffer set the top mark in the javelin with a throw of 47.01 meters.
Saturday's competition from the Kansas Relays can be viewed via ESPN3 while both meets can be followed with live scoring.
