
Gymnastics Hosts Michigan State Friday in Houck Field House

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The Southeast Missouri gymnastics team returns to Houck Field House Friday night hosting Michigan State at 6:30 p.m. This will be the 12th time in school history that the Redhawks have matched up with the Spartans.
Thursday's meet will feature recognition of alumni in attendance while the Redhawks wear throwback leotards along with warm-up shirts from the 90's and early 2000's.
On Sunday, Southeast will honor its five seniors at the Show Me Center with the meet slated to begin at 1 p.m. against Illinois State.
About Michigan State – Michigan State holds a 194.135 regional qualifying average, entering this weekend. The Spartans scored a season-high point total last weekend with a 195.550 in a close loss to No. 21 Denver. Michigan State got a season-high score on the vault with a 48.900 at the meet, led by Alina Cartwright with a 9.900.
Cartwright also owns the top average in the all-around with a 39.007, leading the way in three events, the vault with a 9.886, balance beam with a 9.814 and the floor exercise with a 9.804. Dani Levy has the top average on the bars with a 9.825.
About Illinois State – Illinois State enters the weekend with a 191.320 regional qualifying average. Samantha King owns the top all-around average with a 38.725 for the Redbirds. She has the top score vault, bars and beam with 9.721, 9.750 and 9.794, respectively. Sarah Fisher has the top score on the floor exercise with a 9.722.
In the Redbirds last meet, King won the all-around with a 39.200 as Illinois State bested Penn 193.325-191.450. The 193.325 was a season high including a 48.425 on the balance beam.

Last Meet – Southeast posted a season-high 194.300 while winning a triangular meet on Feb. 23 that featured Midwest Independent Conference foes Texas Woman's and Centenary. The Redhawks scored the ninth-best bars score in school history with a 48.950. Southeast also had seven scores that tied or set new personal bests.
Alyssa Tucker won the all-around with a 38.850 while also winning the bars with a 9.825. Ashley Thomas won the vault with a 9.775. The team victory marked the sixth-straight win for the Redhawks.

Senior Day Sunday: The Redhawks will celebrate Senior Day on Sunday in the final meet of the regular season. Erin Brady, Megan Fosnow, Samantha Marrero, Kimmie Pickerl and Taryn Vanderpool will all be honored prior to the meet with Illinois State.
Six in a Row: The Redhawks have now had a higher score against six-straight teams after beating UIC and Alaska on Feb. 14 and Centenary on Friday night. Dating back to Jan. 31, the Redhawks have beat eight of their last nine opponents, with the only loss coming at Missouri.
Who 2 Watch 4: Megan Fosnow claimed the event title on the uneven bars in a dual at Centenary with a 9.850 and followed with a 9.750 on the floor exercise for a second-place finish. She also finished in second place on the vault with a 9.700. With a day between meets, Fosnow had a strong showing against Texas Woman's and Centenary on Sunday. She scored a 9.725 on the vault and a 9.800 on the uneven bars.
Add a Top-10 Bars Routine: Southeast had a top-10 bars routine in its Feb. 23 meet at Texas Woman's. The Redhawks scored a 48.950, which is the ninth-best bars score in school history.
Walker Named Top Specialist in MIC in Week 5 - Freshman Bailey Walker was named the MIC Specialist of the week after her performance on the floor at Missouri and at home against UIC.
Vanderpool Named Top Gymnast in MIC in Week 2 – Senior Taryn Vanderpool was named the Midwest Independent Conference Gymnast of the Week after her performance at Penn State.
On Tap – Southeast has its last two meets of the regular season against Michigan State and Illinois State before taking a weekend off and returning March 22 for the Midwest Independent Conference Championships. The Redhawks travel to Normal, Ill., for the MIC Championships facing Lindenwood, Illinois State, UIC, Centenary and Teas Woman's. The meet begins at 4 p.m.
