CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The Southeast Missouri track and field teams kick off its outdoor campaign at the Alabama Relays. The three-day meet begins with the decathlon, men's javelin and men's and women's hammer throw on Thursday.

The Redhawks will compete against more than 20 squads including the likes of Georgia, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Mississippi State and Tennessee along with Ohio Valley Conference foes Belmont and Tennessee State.

With this being the first meet in nearly three weeks for most Southeast athletes, head coach Eric Crumpecker just wants the athletes to get their feet wet in the outdoor season.

"We want them to go get as many good races in as possible," Crumpecker said. "This meet is just a kickoff to the outdoor season and want them to get good work in."

The Redhawks will travel nearly a full squad, with the exception coming with a limited distance squad.

Junior Chris Navarro will kick things off for Southeast competing in the decathlon beginning at 1 p.m. Thursday. Kevin Farley, Kyle Shon and Seth Sievers will compete in the first day in the hammer throw while Kayla Gutierrez, Sarah Hall and Bethany Pfeiffer compete on the women's side.

Farley begins his quest to repeat as an All-American after finishing seventh at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the shot put a year ago.

The final event on Thursday is the men's javelin throw with Brian Grote competing for the Redhawks.

Friday's schedule begins the full slate with field events at 10 a.m. and running events at 5 p.m. Saturday has a noon start for the field and 2 p.m. start for the running events.
