The men’s team finished second while the women finished third in the team standings.

CARBONDALE, Ill. – The Southeast Missouri track and field teams wrapped up the 2014 SIU Invitational Saturday. In the final team standings, the men finished second while the women finished third.
"This weekend was a mixed bag of performances from our team," said head coach Eric Crumpecker. "We had a lot of people do good things but we also had people who have done better. That leaves us room for improvement in some areas."
The Redhawks opened the meet Friday with first-place finishes by Jessica Brown and Blake Carter in the long jump.
Day two kicked off with the shot put events. Courtney Gapelu took second with a throw of 49'9.25". Kayla Gutierrez rounded out the top-five with a fifth-place throw of 44'1.5". On the men's side, Kevin Farley placed second with a heave of 57'11.75". Newcomer Shon Kyle took home fifth-place with a 51'7.75" mark.
In the triple jump, Chris Martin and Reggie Miller went one and two among the field with jumps of 48'3.5" and 47'4.25", respectively. On the women's side, Ahshane Johnson's 37'8.5" mark earned her fifth-place.
In the final field event of the day, the high jump, Miller and Jacob Kent took third and fourth with heights of 6'8.25" and 6'4.25", respectively. Abi Sowash earned a fourth-place finish with a height of 5'4.25".
Blake Smith, despite earning the top-seed in the 60m preliminaries, took second in the finals with a time of 6.84 seconds.
Mike Peters set personal records Saturday in the 60m hurdles (8.45) and the 200m dash (23.37). Prenecia Ponds earned third in her event of the 200m in 25.47 seconds.
Despite placing 14th, Gloria Westlake set a new personal record time with 5:17.55 in the mile run. Tyson Stoverink also set a new PR in the mile run with a sixth-place time of 4:26.25. Teammate Shane Brown crossed the finish line just mere moments behind Stoverink in 4:26.30.
Megan Parks' 800m time of 2:24.25 was a new PR for the freshman. Other distance personal records were set by Mary Dohogne (3000m, 10:22.83) and Lindsey Seabaugh (3000m, 10:49.08).
Tyler Holmes took first in the men's 800m in a time of 1:57.31.

In the final event of the day, the men's 4x400 relay, the Redhawks earned third-place in a time of 3:28.42. The relay team consisted of Ellis Maise, Adam Shivers, Holmes, and Peters.
Southern Illinois' men's and women's teams each won the team competition. On the women's side, Austin Peay took second, Murray State placed fourth, and Tennessee Tech tied for tenth. For the men, the UT Martin Skyhawks finished eighth while Austin Peay finished ninth.
Southeast Missouri will split the teams up next weekend as the Redhawks are slated to compete at the Grand Valley State Big Meet (Allendale, Mich.) and the Iowa State Cyclone Classic (Ames, Iowa). Both meets will take place over Feb. 14-15. The distance teams will compete in Allendale while jumpers, throwers, and sprinters will head to Ames.
Crumpecker added: "Both of the meets next weekend are very selective and I expect to see some very good performances from our athletes. They will see some good competition and it will prepare them well for the OVC Championships two weeks later."
