CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The Southeast Missouri track and field teams were split up this weekend and sent to three separate meets. The Redhawks were busy at all three locations, as many looked good on day one of the meets.
The distance teams headed to Allendale, Mich. for the Grand Valley State Big Meet. A few Redhawks saw action, beginning with the men's and women's 5000m events. For the men, Craig Munie was Southeast's top finisher in 36th-place with a time of 15:08.17. Colten Strotheide placed 73rd (15:27.69) while Shane Brown placed 99th (15:56.23). For the women, Gloria Westlake finished 20th in 17:39.47. Rebekah Lawson's time of 18:01.93 earned her 39th-place while Melanie Lacey finished 60th in 18:24.26.
Mary Dohogne was the lone Redhawk in the mile run, finishing 45th in 5:11.86.
Alex Zisser ran the 3000m run and placed 15th overall with a time of 8:36.86.
A few sprinters and throwers saw action at Iowa State Friday in Ames, Iowa.
For the sprinters in the women's 200m, Prenecia Ponds placed 15th in 24.93 seconds while Ayonna Cartwright finished in 27th with a mark of 25.72.
In the women's weight throw, Courtney Gapelu was Southeast's top-finisher as she placed ninth with a heave of 58'3.75". Kayla Gutierrez (11th, 56'1.00") and Bethany Pfieffer (13th, 55'9.25") also saw action in the weight throw Friday.
Kevin Farley earned eighth-place with a weight throw of 57'7.75" while Shon Kyle placed 13th with a mark of 52'4.00".
The most amount of Redhawks saw action at the Hoosier Hills Invitational in Bloomington, Ind.
In the pole vault, Christian Locke placed fourth with a height of 16'1.75", a personal record. Erica Grajales' 11'10" was good enough for 11th-place in the women's competition.
Reggie Miller placed fifth in the high jump with a height of 6'8.25". Chante Mosby placed tenth on the women's side with a jump of 5'5.25".
Jason Walker placed 11th (46'0.75") in the shot put and 12th (45'6.5")in the weight throw while Seth Sievers finished 11th (49'9.25") in the weight throw.
Marc Maton finished the men's mile run in fifth-place in 4:18.16.
Ellis Maise placed 19th in the 200m dash (23.13) and 13th in the 400m (51.34).
In the 800m, Megan Parks earned ninth-place with a time of 2:20.29, a personal record, while Tyler Holmes picked up 16th-place with a mark of 1:58.65.
Southeast Missouri also earned fourth-place in the men's distance medley relay. The relay team consisted of Charles Johnson, Adam Shivers, Holmes, and Maton.
The Redhawks will finish the weekend Saturday from all three locations.
