CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The Southeast Missouri track and field teams will send athletes to three separate meets Friday and Saturday. Southeast will send athletes to Grand Valley State in Allendale, Mich., Iowa State in Ames, Iowa, and Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind.
More specifically, Southeast's distance team will compete at the Grand Valley Big Meet, select sprinters and throwers will compete in Ames, and the jumpers and the rest of the squad head to the Hoosier Hills Invitational.
The Redhawks competed well at the SIU Invitational last weekend as the men finished second while the women finished third. Head coach Eric Crumpecker referred to the meet as "a mixed bag. Some people did good things while others showed room for improvement."
Blake Carter, the reigning adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Male Field Athlete of the Week, took first in the long jump at the SIU Invitational with a leap of 24'09.75". The mark ranks second in the OVC this year and also is tied for 20th nationally. Carter's long jump ranks only behind teammate Blake Smith's jump at SIUE on Jan. 25.
After this weekend, Southeast Missouri will host its only indoor meet of the season Friday, Feb. 21. The Redhawks will use both weekends to gear up for the OVC Indoor Championships Feb. 28-Mar. 1 at Tennessee State in Nashville.
