PDF Box ScoreRICHMOND, Ky. – Playing at the Ohio Valley Conference's East Division leader, the Southeast Missouri women's basketball team knew they had an uphill battle.
After the Redhawks played strong for 30 minutes of the game, Eastern Kentucky pulled away for a 75-56 victory Saturday afternoon in Richmond, Ky.
The loss snaps a two-game win streak for the Redhawks as they fall to 7-14 overall and 3-5 in the OVC. EKU moves to 12-7, 6-2.
Patricia Mack led the Redhawks with 17 points and six assists, which tied career-bests while
Kenyada Brown set a new career high with 14 points.
Connor King added 13 points, all of which came in the second half.
In a wild first half, the Colonels quickly jumped out to a 9-1 lead before an 11-2 run gave Southeast a one-point lead.
Mack sank the first field goal of the game for the Redhawks, a tip-in off a
Kara Wright missed trey.
The easy bucket heated Mack up, as she would score nine of the Redhawks 11 points in the run, adding two layups and sinking a 3-point basket.
Kenyada Brown sank a pair of free throws in the middle of the run.
The Redhawks took the lead on a layup from Mack with a 12-11 score with 11:20 remaining in the first half.
With the game tied at 19-all with 6:05 remaining, EKU embarked on a 17-2 run to end the first stanza with a 36-21 lead.
Southeast came out blazing in the second half, scoring the first seven points to pull within 36-28 and then pull within five points on a
Connor King 3-pointer with the score at 38-33 with 16:06 remaining in the game.
With the score at 53-43 with 7:56 remaining in the game, the OVC's leading 3-point shooter and EKU's all-time leader in made three's, Marie Carpenter, sank back-to-back treys to boost the Colonels lead to 16 points.
The Redhawks were unable to gain any traction after the quick baskets leading to the final score of 75-56.
Miranda Maples led Eastern Kentucky with 20 points while Carpenter added 19.
The Redhawks did outrebound the Colonels 37-36, which is significant because EKU entered the game with a +9.6 rebound margin, tops in the OVC. The Redhawks entered with a +1.6 margin.
After Mack's 13 rebounds King added seven rebounds and Brown had six.
Southeast returns home for a brief one-game homestand Monday in the Second Annual "Classroom on the Court." The Redhawks host Austin Peay at 11 a.m. in the Show Me Center.
