Redhawks Dominate UMKC, 65-50

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Southeast Missouri (4-5) used a balanced offensive attack and strong defense en route to a 65-50 defeat of Missouri-Kansas City (2-7) on Wednesday evening at the Swinney Recreation Center. Olivia Hackmann led the way with 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting while Ashton Luttrull recorded a career-high seven assists. The Redhawks have won three consecutive road games for the first time since 2009.
 
Southeast committed only four turnovers and forced 12 UMKC miscues. The Redhawks shot 47.5% (29-for-61) for the game and held the Kangaroos to a 33.3% (18-for-54) total. Southeast outscored UMKC 38-20 in the paint, 11-2 off of turnovers and 36-2 in bench points.
 
Jasmine Robinson scored the first four points of the game to give Southeast an early lead. UMKC fought back as Aries Washington drained a jumper for to tie the score 7-7 nearly six minutes into the game. Hackmann answered with a jumper and the Redhawks would not trail again as they led for the final 32:45.
 
Brianna Mitchell scored five straight points to increase the Redhawks lead to 14-7 with 10:58 left in the first half. Yelena Rosado's layup to go ahead 16-7 capped a 9-0 run over 5:51.
 
Southeast led 30-17 at halftime and held a 17-0 advantage in bench points and 7-0 lead in points off of turnovers. Hackmann and Mitchell both scored seven points during the first 20 minutes. The Redhawks shot 41.9% (13-for-31) in the first half and held UMKC to 18.2% (4-for-22) from the floor.
 
Just over a minute into the second half, Southeast increased the lead to 15 points on a jumper by Hillary Lively before UMKC went on a 6-0 run to cut the lead to 32-23. The closest the Kangaroos would get was eight at 44-36 with 11:39 left. The Redhawks then went on an 8-0 run over the next 3:20 to put the game out of reach.
 
In addition to her team-high 13 points, Hackmann grabbed six rebounds, tied a career-high with three blocks and made two steals. Luttrull's seven assists came in just 16 minutes of action. Mitchell and Robinson both finished in double figures with 10 points. Robinson set a Southeast career-best with eight rebounds. Erin Bollmann added eight points and eight rebounds while Connor King also finished with eight boards.
 
Calli White posted a game-high 18 points on 6-of-14 shooting from the floor and 4-of-6 from 3-point range for UMKC. Taylor Leathers added 12 points and six rebounds.
 
The Redhawks will participate in the Glass City Classic this weekend at the University in Toledo. Southeast will face Detroit at 11 a.m. CT on Saturday and Idaho at 11 a.m. CT on Sunday.
