Late Three Lifts Morehead Past Southeast, 62-59

MOREHEAD, Ky. – A 3-point basket with 12.4 seconds remaining doomed the Southeast Missouri women's basketball team in a 62-59 loss to Morehead State Monday night in Morehead, Ky.
 
The loss drops Southeast to 5-13 overall and 1-4 in in Ohio Valley Conference action while Morehead improves to 9-10, 3-3.
 
Southeast had a roller coaster of a first half, starting 7-of-7 from the field over the first eight minutes, then finished the final 12 minutes 3-of-12 from the field.
 
The Redhawks jumped out to the early lead, building a 12-9 advantage with 15:15 remaining in the half, then utilizing a 9-2 run to build that to 21-11 lead with 9:46 on the clock.
 
Allyson Bradshaw contributed seven of the nine Redhawk points with a 3-point basket, a pair of points from the charity stripe and a layup. Kara Wright hit a jumper in the paint to end the run.
 
The polar opposite began with 9:04 remaining in the first half as the Redhawks would only hit three more field goals, and a 17-4 run over six minutes fueled the Eagles to a 32-29 halftime lead.
 
Morehead State opened the second half with Almesha Jones sinking a trey to give a brief six-point lead but Southeast answered back with an 8-0 run to take the lead with 16:02 remaining.
 
Patricia Mack made back-to-back layups to start the run. Her second layup was the result of a steal from Olivia Hackmann who quickly pitched ahead to Mack for the fast break points.
 
Hunter tied the game with a jumper, assuring a fourth-straight double-digit game with her 10th point.
 
Brianna Mitchell, who was fresh off a 20-point outburst at UT Martin, knocked in a coast-to-coast layup to give Southeast the lead.
 
Morehead State answered back just as quick with a 3-point basket from the hands of Shanice Parker to give the home squad a 38-37 advantage with 15:44 remaining.
 
That created a back and forth battle that would take place for the duration of the game including four ties and six lead changes.
 
With the score tied at 57-57 with 1:24 remaining, Allyson Bradshaw stepped up to the free throw line to shoot a one-and-one. The junior calmly sank both shots to give Southeast the two-point lead.
 
The two squads traded missed 3-point baskets until Shandice Parker hit a line-drive 3-point basket for the Eagles with 12.9 seconds remaining.
 
With one last shot, the Mitchell took a 15-foot jump shot that fell just short and the ball careened out of bounce. On the in-bounds play, Southeast quickly fouled Terrice Robinson who hit both shots handing Southeast the 62-59 loss.
 
Hunter led Southeast with 18 points while Bradshaw added 14.
 
Jones scored a game-high 20 points for Morehead while Robinson and Parker each added 15.
 
The top rebounder in the game was Mack, who moved into 5th place all-time on the Redhawks career rebounding list, now with 738 rebounds in her career.
 
Southeast outshot MSU 45.7 percent to 43.8 percent and also won the rebound battle 32-27. The difference in the game came in the number of long-range baskets made by Morehead, which was 8-to-3.
 
The Redhawks now return home for two-straight games beginning Saturday with a 3 p.m. game against Eastern Illinois.
