OVC Release
BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – The Ohio Valley Conference announced on Tuesday a three-year deal to continue to hold its annual baseball championship at The Ballpark at Jackson in Jackson, Tenn.
Â
The deal ensures the 2014, 2015 and 2016 championships will be held at The Ballpark at Jackson. The 2014 Championship will be held May 21-25.
Â
"We are excited that the championship tournament will be staying at the Ballpark at Jackson," said head baseball coach Steve Bieser. "The staff there, along with the OVC, run a top-notch tournament at a great facility."
Â
The OVC has held its baseball championship at the venue for the past four years (2010-13). The Ballpark at Jackson serves as the home of the Jackson Generals, the AA affiliate of the Seattle Mariners.
Â
Following the completion of the Generals 2013 season in September, The Ballpark at Jackson will undergo an extensive renovation to its draining system along with a new playing surface. The cost of the renovations is estimated to be around $200,000.
Â
The Redhawks kept their 19-consecutive OVC Tournament appearance steak alive last season by clinching the sixth seed. The Redhawks defeated Belmont in the first round but were knocked into the consolation bracket by top-seeded Tennessee Tech in the second. After eliminating Belmont, the Redhawks were officially knocked out of the tournament by Eastern Kentucky.Â
