The Redhawks send competitors to the Black and Gold Invitational and Lenny Lyles-Clark Wood Invitational this weekend.

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri colors will be worn in a couple states by the track and field program this weekend.
The Redhawks are splitting up for the first time this outdoor season, sending distance runners to the Black and Gold Invitational (Nashville, Tenn.) and the rest of the squad to the Lenny Lyles-Clark Wood Invitational (Louisville, Ky.) on Friday.
Last weekend, Southeast combined for 19 top-10 finishes in individual events at the Sea Ray Relays. Eight of those Redhawks finished in the top five of their respective events.
Jerika Lewis finished runner-up in the 200m showcase (24.11) while also taking seventh in the 400m (56.27). Rebekah Lawson took third in the 10,000m (36:18.06), Kayla Gutierrez was second in the discus (142-10) and Courtney Gapelu placed fourth in the discus (138-6) and fifth in the shot put (50-2 3/4) to round out the Redhawks' top-five finishers on the women's side.
Alex Zisser was the men's highest finisher in the meet, finishing runner-up in the 1500m (3:56.77). Brian Grote and Blake Carter joined Zisser as top-five finishers for the men, taking fourth and the javelin (199-7) and fifth in the long jump (23-8), respectively.
The Redhawks are leading the Ohio Valley Conference in nine events two weeks before the conference championship meet. Jerika Lewis' school-record 200m time of 23.91 paces the league while Craig Munie (30:46.47) and Rebekah Lawson (36:18.06) lead the men's and women's 10,000m, respectively. The men's 4x100m team of Blake Smith, Kendrick Farr, Alexander Anderson and Blake Carter also pace the conference with a time of 40.97.
In the field events, Kevin Farley tops the OVC in both shot put (57-8 1/2) and discus (170-11), Craig Robinson is the league leader in the hammer throw (188-10), Reggie Miller tops the conference in the triple jump (50-2 1/2) and Courtney Gapelu tops all throwers in the women's shot put (50-4 3/4).
Southeast has eight competitors positioned to qualify for the NCAA West Region preliminary meet next month. For the men, Carter is 11th regionally in the long jump (24-8 1/2), Farley is 18th in the shot put (57-8 1/2), Robinson is 19th in the shot put (57-5), Miller is 22nd in the triple jump (50-2 1/2) and Munie sits 40th in the 10,000m (30:46.47). On the women's side, Jill Schnurbusch is 25th in the pole vault (12-11 1/2), Lawson is 34th in the 10,000m (36:18.06) and Gapelu is 37th in the shot put (50-4 3/4).
