CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The Southeast Missouri track and field program expects to send a full complement of competitors to the Cougar Classic this weekend.
The Redhawks compete in the one-day meet, hosted by Ohio Valley Conference foe SIU Edwardsville, on Saturday. Field events begin at 12:30 p.m. Running events start at 2 p.m.
Southeast sent its throwers and two men's runners to last week's Rhodes Open. Four Redhawks won individual event titles, Craig Robinson took first in the shot put, Joel Krause won the javelin, Courtney Gapelu claimed the women's shot put and Sarah Hall taking the hammer throw.
After one outdoor meet, Southeast has several competitors leading the OVC in events. On the men's side, Robinson's tops all OVC throwers in the shot put (55-9 3/4) and hammer throw (188-10). Kevin Farley is leading the league in the discus (156-5) while Krause is topping all men's javelin throwers.
In addition to those event leaders, Farley ranks second in the league in the shot put (51-10), Robinson is second in the discus (148-5), Farley is second (185-0) with Jared Siemers ranking third (178-9) in the hammer throw. Also, Brian Grote (168-1) and Jason Walker (152-9) rank second and third, respectively, in the javelin.
On the women's leader board, Gapelu's shot put throw of 49-9 3/4. Southeast actually boasts the top three shot put marks through one meet as Kayla Gutierrez (45-9 1/4) and Sarah Hall (45-7 3/4) rank second and third, respectively.
That trio also sits in the top four in the women's discus, with Hall (134-5) ranking second, Gutierrez (125-10) sitting third and Gapelu (116-7) in fourth. Hall (165-10) and Emilea Old (150-11) rank second and third, respectively, in the women's hammer throw as well. Hall is also third in the league in the javelin (111-10).
