Setting the Table
The Southeast Missouri baseball team returns to Capaha Field for their home opener on Tuesday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. against Harris-Stowe. The Redhawks will then host Mid-Continent on Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.

Southeast Home Openers
The Redhawks are 24-11 in home openers since 1977. Southeast has defeated Harris-Stowe in their home opener in back-to-back seasons after defeated the Hornets 8-6 a season ago. Southeast is 19-2 all-time against HSSU and has won 17 straight against the Hornets.

OVC Honors
The Southeast Missouri baseball team swept the Adidas Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week honors on Monday afternoon. Sophomore Jason Blum was named Player of the Week and senior Zack Smith was named Pitcher of the Week. Blum, a native of Ste. Genevieve, Mo. hit .556 (5-for-9) with three runs scored, two doubles, two home runs, six RBI, a 1.444 slugging percentage and a .750 on-base percentage. allowed one run over seven innings while striking out 10 batters for Southeast Missouri. The senior allowed a leadoff home run in the first inning but scattered four hits the rest of the way and did not walk any of the 26 batters he faced. In the third and fourth innings he struck out five of the six batters he faced.

Preseason OVC Polls
The Southeast Missouri Baseball team was picked eighth in the Ohio Valley Conference Preseason Poll. Austin Peay, the OVC Co-Regular season and tournament champions in back-to-back seasons were picked to win the league with 14 first place votes. Southeast Missouri junior left fielder Derek Gibson was named Preseason All-OVC after earning First-Team All-OVC last season by the coaches and sports information directors in the OVC.

First Contest
The Redhawks will have a new face at the helm this season as Interim head coach Steve Bieser takes over for former head coach Mark Hogan, who retired in late July. Bieser is in his third season with the Redhawks after serving as pitching coach the previous two seasons.
