Coming off an impressive win over Southern Illinois Tuesday night, the Southeast Missouri women's basketball travels to Western Illinois Saturday for a 4:30 p.m. contest.

The game is a homecoming of sorts for Southeast head coach
Ty Margenthaler who grew up in Macomb, Ill. His farther, Jack Margenthalter, was the head men's basketball coach at Western Illinois from 1977-92 and is a member of the Leathernecks Hall of Fame.

The Redhawks are coming off a 72-50 over SIU Tuesday that snapped a five-game losing streak. Five Southeast players scored in double-digits led by
Olivia Hackmann with 15 points.
Patricia Mack secured her third double-double of the season with a career-high 18 rebounds and 13 points.

About Western Illinois
The Leathernecks enter Saturday's contest 4-5 overall. In its last two games, WIU has an overtime victory over St. Louis and a 17-point loss at Oklahoma. Scoring 80 points, it was the most points the Sooners had given up this year.

Preseason All-Summit League pick Ashley Luke leads the Leatherneck attack with 18.4 points per game and averages a double-double with 10.7 rebounds. Tori Niemann and Michelle Maher each average double digits with 13.1 and 11.9 points per game, respectively.

A high-powered offense, Western Illinois scored 79.4 points per game but gives up 76.9 points per game to its opponents.

The Leathernecks were projected to finish sixth in the preseason Summit League poll.

Southeast prevailed 56-47 last year in Cape Girardeau as
Olivia Hackmann poured in a career-high 15 points and
Patricia Mack snagged 16 rebounds. The Redhawks held the Leathernecks to just 14 first half points.

Although Southeast doesn't rank anyone in the top-10 scoring in the OVC, the Redhawks place two in the top 20 with
Kara Wright at 12.3 points and
Olivia Hackmann at 11.0 points per game.

Active Leaders
With her 15 points against New Mexico,
Kara Wright became the active leader in most games in leading the team in scoring. She has accomplished this feat nine times in just her sophomore season. Wright surpassed
Patricia Mack who has done it eight times in her career.

In 95 career games, Mack has led the Redhawks in rebounding 41 times, which is the active lead. The senior has a career average of 6.8 boards per game throughout her career.

Bench Warmers?
The Southeast bench has a knack for scoring points from the bench. Through the team's first eight games, the Southeast bench has outscored its opponents 205-131. Southeast as won the bench battle in five games and tied Wichita State. Southeast has only been outscored by its opponent's bench twice.

Chasing the Record Book
Junior
Allyson Bradshaw is currently ranked ninth all-time in made 3-point field goals.. She is with Sonya Daughterty (2005-09) and trails Yashika Sidbury (2002-04) who had 93 3-point field goals.

A Thing for Boards
The Redhawks own the second-best rebound margin in the OVC at +2.0. Southeast owns the top spot grabbing 70.3 percent of all defensive rebounds while rakning second on the other end of the floor, securing 35.4 percent of available offensive rebounds.

Patricia Mack and
Connor King have dominated the boards for the Redhawks, combining for nearly 40 percent of Southeast's rebounds. Mack accounts for 21.52 percent while King accounts for 19.23 percent of the availble rebounds.

At 9.2 rebounds per game, Mack ranks second in the OVC in rebounds per game. She trails Jessica Winfrey of Murray State who grabs 10.9 per game.

Preseason Accolades
After averaging 10.6 points in conference play (8.5 overall) as a freshman,
Kara Wright was voted onto the preseason All-Ohio Valley Conference team by the league's coaches and sports information directors. The Louisville, Ky., native is the lone underclassman on the preseason all-conference team. She earned a spot on the OVC All-Newcomer team, the first Redhawks to earn postseason All-OVC honors since the 2008-09 season.

Preseason Polling
The poll tabbed Southeast to finish fifth in the OVC West Division. The Redhawks garnered 61 voting points.

Three-time defending OVC Tournament Champion UT Martin is the preseason favorite once again with 22 first-place votes and 132 voting points. SIU Edwardsville (103 points; two first-place votes), Eastern Illinois (85 points), Murray State (68 points), Southeast and Austin Peay (42 points) round out the predicted order of finish in the OVC West.

On the other side, Tennessee Tech grabbed 12 first-place votes and 119 voting points to lay claim as the preseason OVC East favorite. Belmont earned nine first-place votes and 115 points to check in at second. Eastern Kentucky (95 points; three first-place votes), Morehead State (66 points), Tennessee State (65 points) and Jacksonville State (32 points) make up the rest of the East poll.

Looking ahead to 2014-15
Head coach
Ty Margenthaler announced Nov. 13 the signing of two student-athletes for the 2014-15 season. The Redhawks welcome Imani Johnson of Lee's Summit, Mo., and Kaley Leyhue of Martin, Tenn. Johnson enters her senior year of prep play as a two-time All-State honoree while Leyhue was named the Jackson Sun's Super Senior as she has drained 101 long-range baskets in high school
