After spending its last four games on the road, the Southeast Missouri women's basketball team returns to the friendly confines of the Show Me Center for a 6:30 p.m. contest against Southern Illinois.
 
The Redhawks found life on the road tough, falling in all four contests, including losses to Missouri, Arkansas and New Mexico. Looking to snap a five-game losing streak, Southeast faces Southern Illinois, who is coming off its first win of the season at Central Arkansas.
 
About Southern Illinois
Southern Illinois, under first-year head coach Cindy Stein, enters Wednesday's contest 1-5 after picking up their first victory of the season at Central Arkansas Monday. The Salukis won 39-37, their lowest scoring output of the season.
 
Dyana Pierre leads a pair of Salukis in double-figures scoring at 12.7 points per game. Cartaesha Macklin is the other SIU player in double-figures with 10.8 points per game.
 
Pierre nearly averages a double-double with a team-high 9.8 rebounds per game.
 
Macklin was a preseason selection to the Missouri Valley Conference Preseason Squad.
 
SIU has a short rotation with six players getting the bulk of the minutes at 20+ minutes per game. However, 10 players have seen action in every game.
 
Last Meeting
The two schools met last season in Carbondale, Ill., as SIU prevailed 58-57 on Dec. 5, 2012. Jordan Hunter led the way with 17 points while Patricia Mack snagged 11 rebounds.

What a win will do
A win will give Southeast its third win in the DI era over Southern Illinois and its first since Nov. 21, 2003 a 73-64 triumph in Cape Girardeau.
 
A win also snaps a five-game losing streak.
 
Have yourself a night Kara Wright
Kara Wright had a career night at Missouri scoring 26 points and making four 3-point baskets. Her 9-made field goals was also a career-high.
 
Scoring Threat
Although Southeast doesn't rank anyone in the top-10 scoring in the OVC, the Redhawks place two in the top 20 with Kara Wright at 12.3 points and Olivia Hackmann at 10.6 points per game.
 
Active Leaders
With her 15 points against New Mexico, Kara Wright became the active leader in most games in leading the team in scoring. She has accomplished this feat nine times in just her sophomore season. Wright surpassed Patricia Mack who has done it eight times in her career.
 
In 95 career games, Mack has led the Redhawks in rebounding 40 times, which is the active lead. The senior has a career average of 6.6 boards per game throughout her career.
 
Bench Warmers?
The Southeast bench has a knack for scoring points from the bench. Through the team's first eight games, the Southeast bench ans outscored its opponents 183-121. Southeast as won the bench battle in five games and tied Wichita State. Southeast has only been outscored by its opponent's bench twice.
 
Spark Plug from that Bench
Olivia Hackmann, who started the first five games on the bench, scores 11.0 points per game off the bench.
 
Chasing the Record Book
Junior Allyson Bradshaw currently ranks 8th all-time in made 3-point field foals. She is closely tailing Sonya Daugherty (2005-09) and Yashika Sidbury (2002-04) who made 90 and 93 3-point field goals, respectively.
 
A Thing for Boards
The Redhawks own the third-best rebound margin in the OVC at -0.2. With the third-best rebound defense Southeast grabs 69 percent of all available defensive rebounds. Opposite on the offensive end, Southeast ranks fourth grabbing 34.6 percent of all available rebounds.
 
Patricia Mack and Connor King have dominated the boards for the Redhawks, combining for nearly 40 percent of Southeast's rebounds. Mack accounts for 20 percent while King accounts for 19.12 percent of the availble defensive rebounds.
 
Preseason Accolades
After averaging 10.6 points in conference play (8.5 overall) as a freshman, Kara Wright was voted onto the preseason All-Ohio Valley Conference team by the league's coaches and sports information directors. The Louisville, Ky., native is the lone underclassman on the preseason all-conference team. She earned a spot on the OVC All-Newcomer team, the first Redhawks to earn postseason All-OVC honors since the 2008-09 season.
 
Preseason Polling
The poll tabbed Southeast to finish fifth in the OVC West Division. The Redhawks garnered 61 voting points.
 
Three-time defending OVC Tournament Champion UT Martin is the preseason favorite once again with 22 first-place votes and 132 voting points. SIU Edwardsville (103 points; two first-place votes), Eastern Illinois (85 points), Murray State (68 points), Southeast and Austin Peay (42 points) round out the predicted order of finish in the OVC West.
 
On the other side, Tennessee Tech grabbed 12 first-place votes and 119 voting points to lay claim as the preseason OVC East favorite. Belmont earned nine first-place votes and 115 points to check in at second. Eastern Kentucky (95 points; three first-place votes), Morehead State (66 points), Tennessee State (65 points) and Jacksonville State (32 points) make up the rest of the East poll.
 
Looking ahead to 2014-15
Head coach Ty Margenthaler announced Nov. 13 the signing of two student- athletes for the 2014-15 season. The Redhawks welcome Imani Johnson of Lee's Summit, Mo., and Kaley Leyhue of Martin, Tenn. Johnson enters her senior year of prep play as a two-time All-State honoree while Leyhue was named the Jackson Sun's Super Senior as she has drained 101 long-range baskets in high school
