MADISON, Wisc. – The Southeast Missouri track and field programs returned to action Saturday afternoon at the Wisconsin Invite in Madison, Wisc. The Redhawks won two events on the day with Reggie Miller, Jr. taking the crown in the high jump and Blake Smith winning the long jump.
Reining Adidas Ohio Valley Conference Co-Field Athlete of the Week, Miller, tied his school record with a mark of 7'-0.25” in the high jump on his way to winning the event.
Blake Smith opened his day with a win in the long jump at 22'-3.75”. He was followed by Miller at 21'-9.50”.
In the throwing events Craig Robinson finished third in the shot put with a distance of 52'-3.75”. Kevin Farley finished fifth with a mark of 50'-10.25”. In the weight throw Farley finished sixth at 55'-9.75”.
In the women's pole vault Jill Schnurbusch finished third at 12'-3.50”. Fellow senior Nikki Buchheit finished in fifth with a career-best mark of 11'-9.75”.
Freshman Macy Ritter earned a career-best mark of 17'-1.50” mark in the long jump earning a third place finish. Jessica Brown finished fifth at 16'-9.25”.
In the throwing events Courtney Gapelu finished fifth in the shot put with a mark of 48'-3.5”, falling just short of her career-best. In the weight throw Kayla Gutierrez threw a career-best mark of 57'-0.25”
In the men's running events Blake Smith earned a second place finish in the 60m dash with a time of 6.97. Freshman Kameron Long earned a second place finish in the 800m run at 1:55.02. Sophomore Curt Wood finished third in the event at 1:57.95.
Senior Prentice Ivy finished fourth in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.68. In the 200m dash Alexander Anderson finished in seventh with a time of 22.83.
Senior Tyler Mullen finished third in the 3,000m run with a time of 8:50.14. Sophomore Craig Munie finished fourth with a time of 8:50.16.
In the men's 4x400 meter relay the team of Anderson, Adam Shivers, Wood and Long finished third with a time of 3:24.92, a season-best in the event for the Redhawks.
On the women's side senior Jerika Lewis finished fourth in the 400m dash at 59.23. Freshman Cheyenne Tunti finished fifth in the 200m dash with a career-best time of 26.33
In the distance events sophomore Rebekah Lawson finished sixth in the mile run with a career-best time of 5:30.61. Freshman Alyssa Rebecca finished in fourth in the 800m run with a time of 2:21.63.
Lawson also finished seventh in the 3,000m run at 10:28.35.
The 4x400 meter relay team of Lewis, Alison Barker, Rebecca and Ayoona Cartwright finished third with a time of 4:02.71, a season-best in the event.
The Redhawks return to action next week at the Indiana Relays in Bloomington, Ind.
