Illinois State Takes Series Finale From Southeast ,14-4

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The Southeast Missouri baseball team dropped their series finale with Illinois State Sunday afternoon a Capaha Field as the Redbirds defeated Southeast 14-4. Andy Lennington led the Redhawks going 2-for-5 with a run scored. The Redhawks dropped to 5-7 overall as the Redbirds improved to 7-3 on the season.
 
“We knew they were a good team, they can run and hit and their pitching was excellent,” said head coach Mark Hogan.
 
Illinois State jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning The frame was highlighted by two hits, one of them being an three run single that slid under the glove of centerfielder Cole Bieser.
 
The Redhawks responded in the bottom of the inning with a four run outburst. The four run onslaught saw the Redbirds make two errors with the Redhawks two hits.
 
Bieser opened up the inning with an RBI single scoring Andy Lennington. Parmley and Heon added an RBI in the inning as Southeast took a 4-3 lead.
 
The Redhawks would not score another run as the Redbirds added three in the third, one in the fourth and seven in the sixth on their way to the victory.
 
Lennington led the Redhawks going 2-for-5 with a run scored. Parmley and Bieser added a hit with an RBI. John Logan Zink and Trenton Moses added hits for Southeast.
 
Parmley extended his hitting streaking to 19 games and his reaching base safely streak to 28 games. Moses extended his reaching base safely streak to 33 games.
 
Zack Smith (1-2) was tagged with the loss allowing five earned runs in four innings of work. Cody Spanberger threw 1.1 innings with Ryan Kendall throwing 3.2 innings of scoreless relief with three strikeouts.
 
Dylan Craig started the game for the Redbirds throwing four innings with one earned run. Johnny Lieske (1-0) earned the win throwing two innings with five strikeouts. Matt Mirabal was 3-for-3 with an RBI and one run socred to lead the Redbirds offense.
 
The Redhawks will return to action on Tuesday against Saint Louis at Capaha Field at 4:00 p.m., CT.
