Update #1 -- June 20, 2011

Greetings from Southeast Missouri Women's Basketball. My first two months on the job have been exciting and I can't tell you how excited I am to fulfill my dream of leading my own program. I cannot think of a better place to begin my head coaching career than Southeast Missouri State University.

My first task on the job was to meet the current student-athletes. I had the opportunity to work with them on the court during individual workout sessions over the final two weeks of the school year. This gave me the chance to observe the strengths and weaknesses of each player. Overall, I was very pleased with their effort, attitude and willingness to get better on a daily basis. I ended the school year with individual meetings, which enabled me to share with the student-athletes my philosophy and ultimate vision of where I see this program going. Our program is going to be based on some cornerstones which I believe will make us successful. Unity, Passion, Servanthood, Unselfishness, Thankfulness, Strength, Trust, Humility, Communication and Enthusiasm will be the foundation of our program.

My next order of business was hiring a staff. Having coached for the past 15 years, I have met and worked with some very experienced coaches. I am happy to announce that Ben Coomes, Heather Ezell and Dionnah Jackson will assist me in rebuilding the fine tradition here at Southeast. Now that we are all in the office working, we are planning for an exciting recruiting period in July. Once you get a chance to meet the staff, you will see the passion and hard work they display immediately.

Recruiting has been going well. Our focus right now is to reach out to players and coaches, especially in Missouri. I am really excited about the great response the local coaches are showing us. Building relationships is extremely important for myself and our staff. It is important to keep the best local talent close to home and we will work hard to recruit the Midwest and South.

We have a few players remaining on campus to take summer classes and work on their strength and conditioning. The rest of the team is home for the summer, taking online classes and working out.

I look forward to getting out in the community with our team this fall and encourage your support this 2011-12 season. The Show Me Center is a great facility and I hope to see you all in the seats.

GO REDHAWKS!
