SMU Makes First Trip to Cape Girardeau
Southeast plays host to current Conference USA member SMU on the backend of a home-and-home series which began in 2010-11. Southeast lost the first-ever meeting between these teams, 71-59, in Dallas, Texas on Dec. 29, 2010. SMU will join the BIG EAST Conference for all sports in 2013.
Against the Conference USA
The Redhawks are 0-6 against Conference USA opponents since moving to the NCAA Division I level in 1991-92. Three of those losses were in the last two years.
Mr. Newcomer
Forward
Tyler Stone picked up his second-straight and league-high third Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week award on Dec. 12. Stone, who hails from Memphis, Tenn., became the third OVC player to score 30 or more points in a game this year when he had a game-high 30 at Central Arkansas (Dec. 5). He shot 12-of-18 from the field and a near-perfect 6-of-7 at the free throw line en route to a season-high in points. Stone also pulled down eight rebounds and added two blocks in that game. He followed that up with 21 points and nine rebounds against UMKC (Dec. 10). Stone averaged 21 points and 8.5 rebounds, while shooting 60.7 percent (17-of-28) in his last two games.
Powell is Rolling
Leon Powell has registered a double-double in three-consecutive games. Powell had 21 points and 10 rebounds vs. UMKC (Dec. 10), 26 points and 19 rebounds at Central Arkansas (Dec. 5) and 10 points and 10 rebounds vs. Southeastern Louisiana (Dec. 3). Southeast has not had a player get a double-double in three-straight games since Reggie Golson had 15 points and 10 rebounds at UT Martin (Feb. 3), 15 points and 11 rebounds at Murray State (Feb. 5) and 11 points and 13 rebounds at Eastern Illinois (Feb. 8) during the 2004-05 campaign.
