Southeast Missouri RHP Payton Lawrence was selected as the Ohio Valley Conference Pitcher of the week, the league announced Monday. 
 
Lawrence, a junior from Dixon, Ill., tossed a career high 8.1 innings on Saturday, defeating the Western Illinois Leathernecks. 
 
He struck out seven batters in the outing, allowing just four hits on 104 pitches. Following a leadoff walk to begin the ball game, Lawrence retired the next eight Leathernecks in a row. 
 
Lawrence continued to mow down WIU as he retired the next 17 out of 19 batters en route to the 4-0 victory at Capaha Field. 
 
The right-hander also threw an inning of scoreless baseball in Cape Girardeau during the midweek matchup with Missouri State. He registered one strikeout and allowed just one hit in an inning of relief.
