
Volleyball Picked Second in Preseason Poll, Nelson and St. John Tabbed as Players to Watch

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The Southeast Missouri Volleyball team was picked to finish second in the Ohio Valley Conference Predicted Order of Finish, the league announced Wednesday morning.
The Redhawks totaled 102 total points and three first place votes, based on votes from the OVC volleyball coaches and athletic communicators. Morehead State was picked to finish first with 116 points and nine first place votes.
The OVC also released the Players to Watch, for the upcoming season and Katy St. John and Reagan Nelson were selected from SEMO.
St. John looks to build off a strong freshman campaign where she played 118 sets in 33 matches. She racked up 243 kills and had a season high 16 at Eastern Illinois on 10/18. She also had a .250 hitting percentage and 65 blocks.
Nelson was also named to the watchlist after her freshman year where she played in 92 sets over 25 matches. She recorded 118 kills on 374 total attacks for a .150 hitting-percentage. Her season-high 24 kills against Little Rock (11/23) with a season-high of 62 total attacks in the same match. Nelson also added 2o assists including a match-high four against Missouri State (9/19).
The OVC also honored returning All-OVC athletes from the previous season. Lucy Arndt and Marin Johnson were the two Redhawks who received post season accolades. Arndt was a first team selection and Johnson was a second team selection.
