Track and Field Heads to Three Different Meets

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The Southeast Missouri Track and Field team splits to compete in three different meets starting Thursday.
The majority of the team will travel to Fayetteville, Arkansas and compete in the Jim McConnell Invitational hosted by the University of Arkansas. The throwers will compete in the Kip Janivran Meet hosted By Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa. The multi-event athletes will head to the Jim Freeman Classic in Louisville, Kentucky.
OVC Athletes of the Week
For the fourth consecutive week, SEMO field athletes earned the OVC Field Athlete of the Week with Sullivan Gleason and Jake Cannon sharing the award. Both pole vaulters cleared 17-0.75 on their third attempts to share the event title. It is each of the athletes second time winning the award this season.
Last Time Out
The Redhawks competed at the Georgia Tech Invite and was led by Gleason and Cannon in the pole vault. Other Redhawks who highlighted the meet was Kennedy Zgaynor notched a third-place finish in the javelin with a mark of 148-3 and Zavier Winton also delivered a strong performance in the men's hammer throw, placing sixth with a personal-best mark of 196-9. On the women's side of the hammer, Alyssa Repke (7th, 171-11) and Ellie Rhinehart (10th, 168-10) both secured top 10 finishes, while Andreese Ortiz added an 11th-place finish with a personal-best toss of 167-7.
OVC Rankings
The Redhawks are scattered around the OVC charts halfway through the outdoor season. The SEMO women have eight athletes at the top of the charts. Sydney Burdine jumped to the top of the charts in the 200m after her performance in Atlanta with a time of 55.21, Madalyn Gray leads the conference in the 1500m, and Anna Thomason leads in the 100m hurdles along with the pentathlon. Joining those seniors are Liberty Blackburn in the high jump, Andreese Ortiz in the shot put and the discus and Alyssa Repke in the hammer. The 4x400m relay above also leads in that event.
On the men's side there are six events that the Redhawks currently top the charts. Cole Reinders leads in the 800m, Jacob Blassingame leads in the 3000m steeplechase, John Hartmann leads in the high jump, Jake Cannon is now sharing the top of the pole vault list with Sullivan Gleason, and Zavier Winton tops the Discus and Hammer throws.
