COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Southeast Missouri Track and Field team continues its indoor season with a one-day meet at the Missouri Invitational, hosted by the University of Missouri in Columbia.
The meet will take place Friday with field events starting at 9 a.m. with the men's weight throw before the running events starting at noon with the 60-meter hurdles.
The Redhawks will be competing against nine teams including OVC foes SIUE, Eastern Illinois, Western Illinois and Lindenwood. Murray State and St. Louis University will also be competing.
Record Breaker
Anna Thomason broke the school record for the pentathlon for the second time this season! She eclipsed her original record of 3901 which was set at the John Gartland Invitational to open the season, reaching 3982 points last weekend. While competing in the pentathlon she also set a school record in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.34.
Last Time Out
The Redhawks participated in the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational hosted by the University of Louisville. Competing against over 50 other schools the Redhawks notched seven top 10 finishes. Thomason finished third in the pentathlon,
Trenton Braswell finished third and
Marshall Swadley finished ninth, both in the weight throw,
Nova Ojutkangas finished eighth in the 3000-meters,
Jake Cannon finished fifth in the pole vault,
Jonas Davis finished ninth in the 400 and
Brianna Dixon finished seventh in the 60-meter hurdles.
OVC Athletes of the Week
The Redhawks swept the OVC Field Athletes of the Week award with
Anna Thomason winning the female award and
Trenton Braswell winning the male award. Thomason, as I mentioned won the award after setting two school records while also setting a personal best in the 800-meter event with a time of 2:21.19. Braswell also set a personal best mark in his third-place finish with a wight throw of 68-1.75.
National Rankings
The SEMO track team is well represented on the individual event national rankings.
Marshall Swadley's season best shot put of 62-2.5 now sits at No. 18 in the nation.
Trenton Braswell whose new season best weight throw of 68-1.75 sits No. 39 nationally.
On the women's side
Brianna Dixon is on the national list in the high jump, sitting 47
st in the nation with a maximum height of 5-10.
Anna Thomason is the final Redhawk on the national lists as she now sits 24
th after setting her personal best.
OVC Rankings
Along with having a presence on the national lists the SEMO track teams are well represented on the OVC rankings, three weeks out from the indoor conference championship meet. Male athletes who currently top the charts in the conference are
Marshall Swadley in the shot put and
Matt Pluff in the high jump.
The Redhawk men have multiple athletes right behind the event leaders including
Marcus Gordon Jr. who sits third in the 60m hurdles,
Sullivan Gleason is second in the pole vault,
Colin Beers stands in third in the pole vault,
John Hartmann who is second in the high jump, and
Trenton Braswell sits second in the weight throw and third in the shot put.
On the women's side, event leaders include
Sydney Burdine in the 400-meters, Madalyn Gray in the mile,
Anna Thomason in the 60-meter hurdles and the pentathlon,
Nova Ojutkangas in both the 5000-meters and 3000-meters,
Brianna Dixon in the high jump,
Clara Billing in the pole vault,
Andreese Ortiz in the shot put and weight throw.
The Redhawk women who are just behind the leaders include
Bailie Hux and
Alyssa Repke in the weight throw,
Liberty Blackburn, third in the high jump, Dixon, who is second in the 60m hurdles and Thomason who is 3
rd in the 400m,
Kayla Vogelsang in the 5000-meters.

SEMO will continue to wind down its season as they travel back to Indiana to compete in the Hartland Invitational in Indianapolis. The meet will take place at the Indiana Farm Bureau Fall Creek Pavilion.
