Jax Leatherwood was named Ohio Valley Conference-Big South Offensive Player of the Week and kicker
Justin Keller picked up the league's Co-Specialist of the Week honor Monday.
A native of San Diego, California, Leatherwood had a hand in all three of SEMO's touchdowns vs. North Alabama (Sept. 6). He completed 21-of-33 passes for 225 yards and two touchdowns and ran for one score. Leatherwood's first career rushing touchdown, a 3-yard run in the second quarter, gave the Redhawks their first lead of the contest. He threw a 55-yard pass to
Cam Pedro and an 8-yard pass to
Andrew Civey for his other TDs.
Keller, who hails from Shawnee Mission, Kansas, scored 12 points in his first career home game at SEMO. He kicked three field goals, added three extra points and did not miss a kick the entire game. Keller kicked off six times for 381 yards and averaged 63.5 yards per kickoff, as well. He made field goals of 29 and 27 yards in the second quarter and kicked a season long 48-yarder in the third quarter.
Tennessee Tech defensive lineman Theron Gaines (Co-Defensive), Lindenwood linebacker Sanjay Strickland (Co-Defensive), Charleston Southern punter Gilbert Brown (Co-Specialist) and Lindenwood wide receiver Rico Bond (Freshman) rounded out the week's honorees.
