ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Southeast Missouri (15-13, 8-5) split a doubleheader with in-state rival Lindenwood (16-17, 7-7) Sunday. LU won game one, 3-1, and SEMO took the nightcap, 5-0.
Brooklyn Saysoff had four hits, two runs scored and two RBI,
Gracie Luna added two hits, including a three-run home run and
Sydney Dennis chipped in four hits to lead the way.
SEMO scored all of its runs in the fifth inning en route to its win in the nightcap.
The Redhawks had the bases loaded when Saysoff singled down the right field line to score both Dennis and
Tatum Gerwitz. With two outs, Luna smacked her team-high fifth home run over the left field wall pushing SEMO's lead to 5-0.
That was all the run support
Tegan Livesay needed.
Livesay (4-2) pitched the first complete game shutout of her career. She scattered just four hits (all singles), walked one and recorded a career-high seven strikeouts in her masterpiece.
Livesay threw 96 pitches and became the third Redhawk pitcher to toss a shutout this season.
Dennis and Saysoff each had three hits combining for six of SEMO's eight game two.
Lucy Pratt suffered the loss. Pratt gave up four runs on five hits and walked two in 4.2 innings.
A three-run fifth inning propelled LU's come-from-behind victory in game one.
Down, 1-0, Madisen Noll started the bottom of the fifth with a single and went to second on an ensuing sacrifice bunt. Anna Sanders followed with a double and nine-hole hitter Mya Bethany knocked in the tying run on an infield single. A sacrifice fly by Nicole Henson brought home another run before Jolie McMinn drove in Bethany on a base hit giving the Lions a 3-1 advantage.
SEMO took the game's first lead on a two-out RBI-single by
Gracie Luna in the top of the fourth. Luna's hit scored
Brooklyn Saysoff to put the Redhawks ahead, 1-0.
The Redhawks had a runner in scoring position with no outs in the sixth inning when Saysoff reached on a leadoff double to center. Avery Wapp entered the game to pitch immediately after Saysoff's extra base hit and ended the threat.
Wapp retired SEMO in order to finish off the win.
Wapp threw two scoreless innings with three strikeouts en route to her second save of the season.
Ryleigh Owens (8-6) picked up the win after striking out four and giving up one run on four hits.
Delaney Kell (5-3) took the loss. Kell worked five innings and allowed three runs on six hits. She also struck out three.
Dennis, Saysoff,
Madison Winkler and Luna each had a hit.
SEMO and LU conclude their series with a 12 p.m., CT matchup Monday.
