Box Score EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - #1 Southeast Missouri (15-10) season came to an end with a 4-2 loss against #3 Bryant University (15-6) in the OVC Championship at the Edwardsville Meyer YMCA Center Saturday afternoon.
With the win, Bryant clinched a spot in the NCAA tournamnet. This is their third NCAA appearnce in school history.
The doubles play featured two very close matches that ended with SEMO capturing the doubles point.
The Redhawks court two pair, Lera Valeeva and Kristina Kozakova, made quick of Yahli Noy and Caitlyn Munson winning 6-1. Bryant would tie the doubles point with a tie break victory on court one. Maja Bajroek and Mia Mayerova faced off against Natalia Vela and Maria Jose Her Diaz and ended up losing 7-6 (7-4) in the tie break.
Juliette Demunck and Yontha Tadoum clinched the doubles point for the Redhawks. With the match tied 5-5 Tadoum and Demunck had some great saves and held serve to go up 6-5. The No. 3 pair then broke Bryant to clinch the doubles point and win 7-5. Demunck and Tadoum kept their streak alive with their tenth win in a row.
In singles action Bryant won four out of the five singles matches that got finished. Bryant captured their first point on court two when Noy won 6-1, 6-2 against Tadoum. After starting a bit slow, Demunck turned it on real fast and dominated Munson for a straight set 6-3, 6-0 victory.
Braynt would tie the match on court 5 when Aurora Pedwell defeated Kozakova 6-1, 6-0. Vela scored Braynt's third point of the match defeating Valeeva 6-4, 6-3. Bryant clinched the match with a 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 victory on court four.
Coach Brooks had this to say about the match, "As for getting this team that had a 5, 6, and 7 last year with 2 scholarship players, we played good all year long. Disappointed with the outcome of today but we weren't supposed to make it this far and we did. This is great motivation for next season and next season starts this coming monday."
