MONROE, La. – Southeast Missouri (5-7) dropped two games in the Best on the Bayou Tournament Saturday. The Redhawks fell to Tarleton State, 9-3, and tournament host UL Monroe, 5-4.
Game 1
TSU (13-6) hit a pair of three-run home runs to key its victory over SEMO in the first-ever meeting between the teams.
Down, 2-0, Tristyn Trull gave the Texans their first lead when she hit a three-run home run to left in the top of the third inning.
TSU added six more runs two innings later.
The Texans loaded the bases and scored their first three runs of the fifth inning on a RBI-single by Kalyn Hill and two-RBI hit by Hayden Fox. Jaelynn Duke then cleared the left field wall with a three-run home run to widen TSU's margin to 9-2.
The Redhawks tacked on one final run on a two-out single by
Sydney Dennis.
SEMO started strong by knocking out TSU starting pitcher Kynlee Marquez in just one-third of an inning.
The first three Redhawks reached base with
Tatum Gerwitz and
Madison Winkler each drawing a walk and Dennis getting on with bunt single.
With one out,
Sydney Melton drove in Gerwitz and Winkler to put SEMO ahead, 2-0, in the bottom of the first.
Elliott Stinson (1-1) worked two innings in her third start of the season. Stinson allowed two runs on one hit, struck out four and walked three.
Willow Van Haren and
Delaney Kell pitched behind Stinson.
Shelby Schultz allowed just one run on six hits, struck out six and walked one to earn the win in relief.
Dennis went 3-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI in her second three-hit game in three starts.
Game 2
Carys Platt had a walk-off one-out single with the bases loaded to send ULM to its second one-run victory of the tournament over SEMO.
The Warhawks won their 11
th game in a row and remained undefeated with a 10-0 record at home.
Tied, 3-3, Dennis hit a go-ahead RBI-single to score Gerwitz giving the Redhawks a 4-3 edge in the top of the seventh inning.
ULM then had the bases loaded with one out when pinch-hitter Jacelyn Buck walked on four pitches and Hollie Thomas scored the tying run.
On the next play, Platt singled through the right side and Cheyenne Jenkins touched home to end the game.
SEMO struck first in its opening at-bat of the contest when
Gracie Luna reached on a two-out bases loaded walk.
ULM tied the game in the bottom half of the first before the Redhawks regained the lead with two runs in the top of the third.
Freshman
Addisyn Martinie knocked in Melton and
Taryn Coon on a two-out triple to right center, the first of her career, putting SEMO ahead, 3-1.
The Warhawks knotted things up again in the bottom of the fourth. Morgan Brown hit a two-run home run to make it a 3-3 ballgame.
Maddie Carney (1-4) was credited with the loss in relief. Carney allowed one run and walked three in one-third of an inning.
Tegan Livesay started in the circle and pitched six innings. Livesay gave up four runs on six hits and struck out two.
Winkler and Dennis collected two hits each to lead SEMO.
The Redhawks wrap up their five-game stretch at the Best on the Bayou Tournament vs. Tarleton State Sunday.
