Tennis Ends Paducah Trip With a 5-2 Victory Over Austin Peay

PADUCAH, Ken. - Southeast Missouri tennis (2-5) stormed past Austin Peay (0-3) for their second win of the season Saturday afternoon. The Redhawks defeated the Governors 5-2 as Head Coach Steve Brooks captures his second career win as a Redhawk.

The Redhawks started off the match by clinching the doubles point on court three.

Lera Valeeva and Kristina Kozakova blew up their opponent and won 6-0 at the No. 1 position. The governors answered back by tying up the doubles matches and winning on court two. Yu-Hua Cheng and Denise Torrealba defeated Maja Bajorek and Mia Mayerová 6-0.

All the action happened at the No. 3 doubles position. Juliette Demunck and Claudia Casas barely escaped with a 7-6 victory over Ayden Kujawa and Alice Bolton clinching the doubles point for SEMO.

Kozakova and Casas won by forfeit on court 5 and 6 to start singles play due to Austin Peay not having enough players to compete.

SEMO would go on to win their next two matches in straight sets and push their lead to 5-0 clinching the match. Bajorek dominated Kujawa winning 6-1, 6-1 on court three and Mayerová swept Bolton 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 4 position.

Austin Peay would claim the next two and only points of the contest by winning on court one and two. Valeeva fell in straight sets to Baranov 6-1, 7-5 at the No. 1 and Demunck lost against Fontana 7-6, 6-1 on court two.
