Cross Country Set for UT Martin XC OVC Preview

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri cross country travels to Martin, Tenn. for the UT Martin OVC Preview meet Saturday, September 13th.
The course overall will be very flat with a few pavement parts that are covered. The women's 6k begins at 9:00 a.m CT featuring two loops of 2km and a final loop of one mile with a 400m straight finish.
The men's 8k is slated for 10:00 a.m CT and will feature three loops of 2km and a final loop of one mile with a 400m straight finish.
OVC Weekly Awards
Noah Little and Nova Ojutkangas tabbed Ohio Valley Conference weekly honors for their performances at the Redhawks Cross Country Invitational.
Little crossed the line at 15:10.965, 15 seconds faster than second place to take first in the 5k beating 71 other athletes from ten different schools with the fastest OVC time over the weekend
Ojutkangas was crowned the champion in her very first NCAA competition, finishing with a time of 17:50.103 ahead of 91 other athletes, besting reigning OVC Champion Hannah Eastman.
Last Time Out
The men's cross country team took first at the Redhawks Invite finishing with four of the top five finishes and five of the top ten finishes. The men's team also recorded ten new personal best during the meet.
The Redhawk women finished in fourth notching four of the top 25 finishes while posting two new personal records.
Senior, Noah Little finished the 5k in first at a mark of 15:10.965 over 15 seconds faster than second place.
Nova Ojutkangas, transfer from France, took home the gold in the women's 5k, crossing the line at 17:50.103.
Rounding out the top five scorers for the Redhawk men were Nick Cimmarusti in second (15:26.660), Garrett Dumke in third (15:37.031), Myles Thornburg in fifth (15:50.916), and Justin Splitt in 10th (15:56.605).
Erika Mellor placed 16th (19:11.134), Madelyn Gray placed 23rd (19:27.741), Brooklyn Bender finished in 25th (19:30.882), and freshman Lauren Eftink crossed the line in 26th (19:32.478) to round out the top five women scorers.
Runners To Watch
Noah Little and Nova Ojutkangas were selected to the 2024 OVC Cross Country Runners to Watch list.
Little, a redshirt senior from Washington, Mo. was selected to the list after finishing with All-OVC honors the previous two years. Last year Little finished in seventh at the OVC championships with a time of 23:59.57. His junior year he crossed the line at the championships with a time of 25:37.3 for 10th.
Last season Little led the Redhawk men in every race and placed in the top ten three times. He finished last season at the NCAA Midwest Regional meet with a time of 33:06.8 (134th).
Ojutkangas, a redshirt sophomore, comes to the Redhawks from Lannion, France. She is expected to be a great addition to the Redhawk women's team.
Overseas Ojutkangas was the Swedish U20 Champion in cross country and the French U18 Champion in the 10k in road running. She also competed at the national level as a U20 athlete and was second in the French U20 championships in the 10k in road running.
Looking Ahead
The Redhawks race in the Gans Creek Invitational in Columbia, Mo. at the University of Missouri Sept. 27.
