CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri Volleyball received the 2024 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award sponsored by INTENT, the organization announced on Wednesday afternoon.
SEMO Volleyball has now won the award 17 years in a row and has won it every single year in the
Julie Yankus era. The last time that the program did not receive the award came during the 2006-07 campaign.
As a program, the award marks the 24 time that SEMO Volleyball has been amongst the most prestigious academic program(s) in the country.
To garner the award, the program must maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale.
"We are pleased that the record-setting success of the 2023-24 season on the court has extended to the classroom, too, as evidenced by more programs earning the Team Academic Award than ever before," says AVCA CEO Jaime Gordon. "This is a great example of how committed our coaches are when it comes to helping their players reach their full potential as both students and athletes."
Indiana State has the longest current streak in Division I women's volleyball, having received the award now 26 years in a row. Stanford University received the award in women's & men's volleyball, and beach making them the only Division I institute to complete all three.
