CHARLESTON, Ill. - Breanna Miles headlined day one of the 2024 outdoor championship by breaking her own SEMO record. The Redhawks recorded one first place finish, 12 top ten finishes, and tallied seven new personal bests.
After day one the women's and men's team is in second. The women's team has 17 total points, 14 points behind Western Illinois in first. The men's team has 40.50 points behind Eastern Illinois with 42.50 total points.
Record Again
Senior
Breanna Miles broke her own 200-meter record again during the 200-meter preliminary race. The Memphis native crossed the line at 23.67, beating her previous record of 23.71 to secure her spot in the 200m finals.
Atop The Podium
Parker Feuerborn claimed the top spot on the podium in the hammer throw when he launched the hammer a distance of 233' 6".
Podium Finishes
Todjai Ross achieved a distance of 19' 5.75" and a new personal best in the long jump.
Colin Beers vaulted over a height of 16' 3.75" for a new personal best.
Paden Lewis and
Marshall Swadley chalked up distances of 208' 11" and 204' 10" to take the silver and bronze medals.
Notable Finishes
In the women's hammer throw
Piper Klinger achieved a mark of 165' 9" (6th),
Alivia Busch notched a distance of 163' 4" (7th) for a new personal best, and
Bailee Hux reached a distance of 152' 8" (10th).
Molly Grohmann jumped for a final distance of 18' 3" to take ninth in the long jump.
Tanner Koontz and
Sullivan Gleason jumped over heights of 15' 9.75" and 14' 10" for fourth and fifth.
With a mark of 153' 8"
Quinton Maxwell placed 10th in the men's hammer throw.
Connor Moore recorded a finishing time of 22.02 to achieve a new PR in the 200-meter.
With a mark of 21' 6.25"
Jacob Miller earned a new personal record in the long jump.
In the 10,000m
Hannah Eastman finished with a time of 37:02.34 (4th) and
Lexie Dockstader ended with a new PR time of 37:59.53 (8th).
Headed to the Finals
Laila Hardin and
Kaitlyn McGinnitey are headed to the 400m Hurdle finals with times of 1:05.29 and 1:07.05.
Semo's trio of 1500m runners all qualified for the finals:
Layla Fliege (4:45.61),
Brianna Payton (4:46.71), and
Kayla Vogelsang (4:51.24).
Sydney Burdine crossed the line at 24.34 and recorded her name in the 200m final race.
Heptathlon Day One
After four events in the Heptathlon
Anna Thomason is in second with 2988 total points, only 17 points behind first.
Kaitlyn McGinnitey is in fifth with 2782 total points and
Tayler Gudde is in sixth with 2500 total points.
In the 100m Hurdles
Anna Thomason, McGinnitey, and Gudde placed first (14.18), fourth (14.79), and sixth (16.18).
The high jump saw Thomason jump over a height of 5' 4.25" (1st), McGinnitey clear a height of 4' 11.5" (4th) and Gudde jump a height of  4' 8" (7th).
With marks of 32' 1", 31' 11.75", and 28' 3.75" McGinnitey placed fourth, Gudde placed fifth, and Thomason placed seventh.
With times of 25.69, 26.37, 26.42 Thomason notched first, McGinnitey placed fifth, and Gudde posted a sixth place.
Decathlon Day One
After five events in the decathlon
Shea DeGraaf is in second with 3582 points, 102 points behind first.
Isaac Readnour is in seventh with 3297 total points.
DeGraaf placed fourth with a time of 11.34 and Readnour placed sixth with an ending time of 11.38 in the 100m race.
In the long jump Readnour notched silver with a distance of 22' 5" and DeGraaf jumped for a mark of 21' 5.5" (6th).
DeGraaf took the top spot in the shot put with a mark of 44' 8.5", while Readnour achieved a mark of 31' 4.5" (10th).
The silver medal and seventh place were taken by DeGraaf (6' 4") and Readnour (5' 10") in the high jump.
After the 400m dash was over Readnour had a time of 53.12 (7th) and Degraaf finished with a time of (53.91).
Day Two
The second day of the championships will begin at 9:00 a.m tomorrow with the multis events. The field events are slated to start at 2:30 p.m with the men's discus and the running events are scheduled for 5:00 p.m with the women's 100-meter hurdle event.
