NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Southeast Missouri (9-6, 4-0 OVC) cruised to a 7-0 win over Tennessee State (3-14, 1-2) Friday afternoon in the Music City.
SEMO ran its winning streak to five-straight matches and completed their fifth shutout of the season.
The afternoon started in doubles play with the Redhawks winning every match. The No. 1 pair of Daniela Hlacikova and Juliette Talieu beat Perri Howard and Warona Mdlulwa, 6-2. Maja Bajorek and Lera Valeeva defeated Aroa Arrieta Castillo and Daniela Koleva, 6-2, at No. 3. Â Â
Trinity Calinescu and Vivian Lai then won, 6-1, at the No. 2 position. SEMO improved to 26-12 in doubles this season as a team. Hlacikova and Talieu have a team-best 11-1 doubles mark.
SEMO won five out of the six singles matches in straight sets. Hlacikova defeated Mdlulwa 6-2, 6-3, at No. 1, and Calinescu upended Louise Ratiu 6-4, 6-0, at No. 2. Hlacikova (10-5) and Calinescu (10-4) are the first to reach double-digit singles wins this season.Â
Vivian Lai defeated Castillo 6-1, 6-3, and Bajorek was victorious over Francisca Gomez-Weiss 7-6, 7-5, at No. 4. Valeeva competed against Tennessee State's Howard at No. 5 coming away with a 6-2, 2-6, 6-1, victory.
Freshman Juliette Demunck was back in the lineup competing at the No. 6 singles position. Demunck recorded her first career collegiate win when she took down Koleva, 6-2, 6-1.Â
SEMO is back in action when it hosts Southern Indiana on Apr. 5.Â
