Redhawks Set for 2024 Midwest Independent Conference Championships
Southeast Missouri Gymnastics will compete in the Midwest Independent Conference Championship Meet on Saturday, March 23, in St. Charles, Mo. The meet will feature Texas Woman's, Centenary, Illinois State, and Lindenwood. Competition is slated to begin at 5 p.m., CT. at Hyland Arena.
Ingle Gymnast of the Week
Sophomore Taylor Ingle picked up league honors on Wednesday as the MIC Gymnast of the Week in the final week of the regular season.
Ingle, who has competed in the all-around in eight-of-the-11 meet SEMO has competed in this season, achieved her second highest all-around score of the season with a 39.325 at Illinois on Sunday afternoon.
The sophomore from Coppell, Texas registered a 9.800 or higher on each event, turning in a 9.850 on both Vault & Floor.
She hit a 9.800 on Bars and a 9.825 on Beam to help the Gymhawks hit a 192.700 at the Illinois Quad-Meet in the regular season finale.
This season, Ingle has four scores of 39.000 or more in the all-around category and set her career-high in the all-around at the Tennessee Collegiate Classic with a 39.500.
Last Time Out
The Gymhawks most recently competed at the Illinois Quad-Meet last Sunday afternoon, registering a 192.700 in the final regular season meet of 2024.
Taylor Ingle competed in the all-around, taking home third place with a score of 39.325 for her second highest all-around score of the season.
Senior Lydia Webb also competed in the all-around picking up sixth place with a final score of 36.750.
Beam
The Redhawks started the quad meet off on the balance beam, posting a 46.575. The routine was led by Taylor Ingle in spot six, who turned in a score of 9.825.
Anna Speller achieved a score of 9.675 in spot two.
The underclassman duo of sophomore Anna Chodon and freshman Jordan Napolitano achieved scores of 9.575 and 9.000 at spots three and four, respectively.
After rotation one SEMO trailed Illinois (49.225), Arizona (49.250), and Missouri (49.250).
Floor
The Redhawks moved onto the floor which was highlighted by Madison Greene. The Junior notched a meet high score of 9.875, anchoring the floor lineup.
To lead off the rotation, sophomore Kailyn Hamilton posted a score of 9.775, while Jordan Napolitano recorded a 9.750.
At the third spot Sydney Crouch's routine scored a 9.550.
Taylor Ingle continued her great start by posting 9.850. Then Lydia Webb continued the momentum by reeling off the same score.
The 49.100 floor exercise score was the highest routine score for the Gymhawks.
Vault
Taylor Ingle led the Redhawks on the vault with another 9.850. Southeast turned in a 49.500 team score during the event.
At spots two and four Janelle Lopez and Lydia Webb posted scores of 9.700.
Jordan Napolitano registered a 9.725 for her routine.
Anchoring the event Madison Greene and Ailey Kuehn both recorded a 9.775 to tie as the second highest score in the event for SEMO.
The Redhawks had a running score of 144.500 after the third rotation.
Bars
The final event of the afternoon was headlined by Taylor Ingle again. She posted a 9.800 to lead the Redhawks in the routine.
At spot two Freshman Ava Johnston made her debut for the meet on the bars. She achieved a 9.675 to tie Kailyn Hamilton's score.
The all-arounder Lydia Webb finished the day with a 9.700 score.
Sydney Crouch anchored the event, delivering a 9.300 for SEMO. Southeast ended their final event with a 48.200 score on the uneven bars.
Scouting the Opponent
Lindenwood
The Lions are hosting the MIC Championships this year and they come into the championships with a 10-11 record.
Lindenwood is currently on a two-game losing skid, dropping a close one to Illinois State (195.825 to 195.975) and losing to Michigan State 195.825 to 197.050.
Against Michigan State, Jaly Jones finished with the third highest all-around score finishing with a 39.150. This was the sixth time this season she has finished with a AA score of 39.000 or higher.
Individually Lindenwood's highs have been Gayla Griswold on the vault (9.950) and floor (9.975), Hannah Moon on the bars (9.925), Hannah Moon and Nya Kraus on the beam (9.900), and Jaly Jones with an all-around score of 39.275.
As a team Lindenwood is ranked 44th in the nation and has a team average of 195.408 but has a season high of 197.075.
Lindenwood has two gymnasts ranked in the top-100, Sophomore Jaly Jones ranked 75th (38.981 Ave.) and Hannah Appleget is ranked 89th with an average score of 38.654.
Illinois State
The Redbirds are the reigning MIC champions and come into this year's championships with an overall record of 15-11 and a conference record of 4-3.
Illinois State has split their last six matches going 3-3 the past two weeks. They most recently lost to Michigan State 195.975 to 197.050.
Against the Spartans, the Redbirds finished with their second highest score of the year on the vault, scoring 49.225.
Senior Madison Kipp set a career high on beam with a score of 9.925 and Jaye Mack tied her season high on the vault with a 9.900. Angelica Labat placed fourth overall in the all-around competition finishing with a 39.100.
Illinois State is currently ranked 41st in the nation with an average score of 195.425. A 196.275 has been their best score of the year.
The red shirt senior, Angelica Labat is the only Redbird gymnast that is ranked. Labat is ranked 58th with her highest score of the year being a 39.325, Labat's average score is a 38.960.
Centenary
Centenary comes to St. Charles with a 2-15 overall record and a 0-4 conference record.
This season Centenary's wins have come against Simpson college on February 4, and against Grennville on February 11.
Most recently the Centenary ladies gymnastics team earned a season-high 190.325 on March 17th to finish second against the Texas Woman's University.
Sophomore Sophie Schmitz won the All-Around with a new season and career-high 38.175.
The Ladies average a score of 186.720 ranking 80th in the nation. They rank 79th on the vault, 75th on the bars, 82th on the beam, and 84th on the floor routine.
Schmitz has been the best gymnast for the ladies this season with averages of 9.516 (Vault), 9.525 (Bars), 9.018 (Beam), and 9.500 (Floor) for an average all-around score of 37.925.
Texas Women's
The Pioneer's enter the meet with a 5-20 overall record and a 3-1 MIC record.
TWU's only conference loss came against Illinois State and their wins against Lindenwood and Centenary twice.
Most Recently the Pioneers posted a 196.125, which marks their second highest score of the season and the first time ever the program has recorded 196+ two times in a single season.
On the uneven bars, the team scored a season high 49.250. Freshman Sophie Hernandez won the floor routine with a 9.8750.
Kailtyn Hoiland won the triple crown, by placing first in every event she competed in. On the vault Hoilnad notched a 9.850, scored a career high 9.900 to claim her second event title and earned a 9.9000 on the beam to win the event.
TWU ranks 53rd in the nation averaging a score of 194.893 with a season high of 196.275. The Pioneers have highs of 49.1500 (Vault), 49.2500 (Bars), 49.100 (Beam), and 49.375 (Floor).
