CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri Women's Basketball (8-18, 5-10 OVC) fell on Thursday night to Little Rock (10-16, 9-6 OVC) by a final score of 61-48 at the Show-Me Center.
Freshman
Indiya Bowen finished with a team-high 15 points to lead SEMO's offense. Bowen finished 4-for-10 from the field and 6-for-7 from the free-throw line.
Alecia Doyle was the other Redhawk in double-digits, finishing with 10 (3-for-9).
As a team, SEMO shot 35-percent from the floor (16-45) and was just 21-percent from three-point range (3-14). The Redhawks won the battle of the boards by a 28-21 margin, led by
Kiyley Flowers who finished with six.
Little Rock was led by guard Jordan Holman who finished with 20 points and seven rebounds. As a team, LR shot 52-percent from the floor (26-50). The Trojans found success inside the paint, scoring 32-of-their-61 points in the ball game.
The Trojans won the turnover battle with a 22-15 advantage, turning SEMO's 22 turnovers into 27 points.
Little Rock's Sha'nequa Henry got the scoring going in the first quarter with a layup off a Redhawk turnover.
Alecia Doyle started her scoring night sinking a free throw with 8:07 left in the quarter to get the Redhawks on the board.
Back-to-back baskets from SEMO via an
Indiya Bowen driving layup to give SEMO its first lead of the contest. Doyle responded with her own layup and SEMO led 5-2 early on.
A steal by
Kiyley Flowers led to SEMO's next basket, a Bowen three pointer in transition to give SEMO an 8-2 lead before LR scored again.
A quick 8-0 run by the Redhawks was halted by LR's Faith Lee as she made a jumper just outside of the lane to cut the SEOM lead to four with 5:25 left in the quarter.
A Green free throw, followed by a second-chance opportunity by forward
Julia Sion gave the Redhawks an 11-4 advantage with a little over four minutes left.
The Redhawks would score one more point in the quarter and at the end of the first, the game was knotted at 12.
LR opened the second quarter on a 10-2 run beginning with five straight points by guard Jordan Holman.
Bowen sunk a pair of free-throws but another Holman three and a Leilani Wimbish-Gay layup forced SEMO into a timeout. With 6:12 left in the half, LR led 22-14.
Out of the timeout, forward
Michaela Mayfield crashed the offensive glass and finished the second-chance opportunity to get the Redhawks to within six.
The Trojans grew their lead to 10 with just over a minute to go in the half with a jump shot from Jaiyah Harris-Smith.
SEMO closed the half with a layup from
Alecia Doyle and at the half, the Redhawks trailed 29-21.
Freshman
Indiya Bowen led the Redhawks with eight points at the break, going 2-for-3 from the field and a near-perfect 3-for-4 from the charity stripe.
As a team, SEMO shot just 28-percent from the field (7-25) and just 14-percent from three (1-7). The Redhawks, trailing by eight, missed six free throws and finished 50-percent from the line (6-12).
The Trojans were led in scoring by Jordan Holman who finished the half with a game-high 11 points. LR did most of their damage in the paint scoring 14 of their 29 points in the area.
SEMO outrebounded the Trojans in the first half by a 15-11 margin, led by
Julia Sion who had three rebounds off the bench.
Alecia Doyle opened the second half scoring with a three pointer off a LR turnover.
Kiyley Flowers registered the assist and the Redhawks trailed by just five 48-seconds into the second half.
LR & SEMO traded baskets over the next three-minutes of the contest as
Amiyah Buchanan and
Jaliyah Green scored for the Redhawks.
A turnaround jump shot by Faith Lee gave the Trojans a 10-point lead with 5:54 remaining in the third quarter.
The Redhawks would get back to within nine with a free throw from Buchanan and then it was all Trojans as LR closed the third on an 11-1 run and led 51-32 at the end of three.
LR scored the first four points out of the quarter break, and led the entire way as they held on for a 61-48 victory on Thursday night.
