Volleyball Heads to Lindenwood for Pivotal OVC Battle Thursday & Friday
Southeast Missouri Volleyball (15-11, 12-2 OVC) will be on the road for the second-straight weekend when they take on Lindenwood (17-9, 11-3 OVC) in a battle of the top two teams in the Ohio Valley Conference. First serve is slated for Thursday, November 14 and Friday, November 15, with both games starting at 6 p.m., CT.Â

What's At Stake?Â
Thursday and Friday's matchup is a pivotal matchup in Ohio Valley Conference play with the winner of the series gaining a huge a step towards winning the regular season conference title. SEMO, who enters the contest(s) with a 12-2 mark in league play sit one game in front of Lindenwood. The winner of the regular season championship is automatically selected to host the 2024 Ohio Valley Conference Championship Tournament.Â

Series History
SEMO and Lindenwood will meet for the sixth and seventh time(s) in league play this week as the Lions hold a 3-2 advantage in the series. The two did not meet prior to LU joining the OVC (2022). In their inaugural season, the two teams split the regular season matchup in St. Charles. A season ago, LU swept both matches in Cape Girardeau in four and five sets, respectively. The Redhawks got their revenge in the 2023 OVC Tournament in Charleston, Illinois with a 3-2 victory.Â

Last Time Out
SEMO Volleyball got back to their winning ways this past weekend with a series sweep over UT Martin in Martin, Tennessee. The Redhawks started the series with a 3-0 sweep over the Skyhawks by scores of 25-17, 25-15, and 25-13 behind a .333 team-hitting percentage.
Lucy Arndt led the way with 13 kills, followed by
Abby Johnson (9), and
Marin Johnson (6).
Megan Holder dished out 18 assists,
Kennedey Johnson with 14 assists as the Redhawks closed the match with a .486 hitting mark in the third and final set.Â

SEMO closed the series with a 3-1 win over UTM by scores of 25-16, 23-25, 25-22, and 26-24 behind 20 kills from
Abby Johnson. Johnson had 41 total attacks, with just five errors, for a .366 hitting-percentage.
Lucy Arndt (12) and
Marin Johnson (10) rounded out three Redhawks in double figures for the match. As a team, SEMO hit .288 including a match-high .333 in the second set.Â

Senior outside hitter
Kayla Closset is narrowing in on 1,000 digs for her career at SEMO. The Naperville, Illinois native needs just five more digs to reach 1,000 as she currently sits at 995 over her career. Closset would be the 11
th Redhawk in program history to surpass 1,000 digs led by former Redhawk,
Tara Beilsmith, who finished her career with 3,034 career digs.Â

Double-Digit Kill Streak
Sophomore
Lucy Arndt has been on a tear over the last nine matches, finishing with double digit kills in each match. In a match against Little Rock (10/29), Arndt recorded a season-high 22 kills in a five-set victory over the Trojans. Arndt now has 22 matches on the season with 10 or more kills.Â

Defensive Specialist/Libero
Nina Schuberth has commanded the backline for the Redhawks this season. The sophomore from Yokrville, Illinois has totaled 390 digs on the season over 102 sets played this year. Schuberth is averaging 3.82 digs-per-set and ranks 10
th in the OVC in that category.Â

Lucy Arndt leads the Redhawks in points scored this season. Arndt has registered 382 points so far, averaging 3.75 points-per-set. In 102 sets, Lucy currently ranks third in the Ohio Valley Conference behind Kenya Cruse (Western Illinois) and Madolyn Isringhausen (Tennessee Tech).Â

Ramiri Gardner currently ranks second in the OVC in hitting-percentage. The middle blocker has played in 96 sets this season, totaling a .353 hitting-percentage per match. Gardner has 173 kills on 371 total attacks with just 42 errors.Â

Abby Johnson is narrowing in on 1,000 career kills dating back to her time at Bradley University. Johnson, who transferred to SEMO this year, currently sits at 949 kills on the year. Prior to joining the squad, Johnson sat at 666 kills and has added 283 kills this season to her total.Â

Johnson recorded 20 kills on Saturday afternoon at UT Martin in a four-set victory for the Redhawks. Previously, Johnson's season best was 19 kills against Missouri State (9/20) in Carbondale, Illinois at the Saluki Invitational. This season, Johnson has a .238 hitting-percentage over 102 sets played.Â

Scouting the Opponent
Lions
The Lions enter the matchup with a 17-9 overall record and a conference record of 11-3. The Lions sit in second place in the Ohio Valley Conference standings behind the Redhawks in first.

Most recently LU beat Western Illinois 3-1 on Nov. 5. The Lions posted 72 kills against the Leathernecks with 65 total assists. It marked the fourth time this season the Lions have posted over 70 kills in a match

On offense four lions have posted 200+ kills on the campaign; Nyah Wilson (280), Autumn Bax (250), Rebecca Janke (224), and
Addy McAleer (209). In the conference, Bax ranks eighth in kills and seventh in hitting percentage (.290).

Allie Otten leads the team in assists with 947, ranking fourth in the OVC. The graduate student has tallied 28 service aces and 298 digs.
