ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Southeast Missouri Women's Basketball (6-14, 3-6 OVC) fell on Tuesday night to Lindenwood (5-14, 3-6 OVC) by a final score of 67-53 at the Hyland Center.
The backcourt duo of
Jaliyah Green and
Alecia Doyle paced the way for the Redhawks scoring 13 and 12, respectively, for 25 of SEMO's 53 points.
As a team, SEMO shot 41.5-percent from the field (17-41) and were an impressive 46-percent from three-point land (6-13). Green,
Kiyley Flowers,
Daejah Richmond, and
Indiya Bowen all drained a three-pointer in the contest.
The Lions and Redhawks traded three pointers to open Tuesday's contest. Lindenwood's Eliie Brueggemann opened the scoring, before
Indiya Bowen drained the triple on the other end on the Redhawks' second possession of the night.
Another Brueggemann three this time followed by an
Alecia Doyle elbow jumper and the score was 6-5 early in the first quarter.
Kiyley Flowers blew by the Lions defense to score the next basket of the contest for SEMO after a scoring run from LU. Flowers' basket at the 5:13 mark made it 13-7 Lions.
LU would make a layup with 1:48 left in the opening 10-minutes to hold a 12-point lead, the largest lead of the contest to that point.
A
Daejah Richmond step back, top-of-the-key three-pointer as the clock was winding down would cut the deficit to nine with the Redhawks losing 21-12 at the end of the first quarter.
The Lions opened the second quarter on an 8-0 run to extend their lead to 29-12 before the Redhawks called a timeout with 6:29 left in the half.
The Redhawks would fight back.
Jaliyah Green drained a three-pointer at the top-of-the-key for SEMO's first basket of the quarter.
An
Alecia Doyle layup, followed by an
Amiyah Buchanan and-one trimmed the LU lead to just 29-19. Buchanan would miss the free-throw, but the Redhawks were in the midst of a 7-0 run of their own with 2:26 left in the half.
LU would close the half with a Makayla Wallace layup and led 33-20 at the break.
At the half, SEMO was shooting just 33-percent from the field (7-21) and 50-percent from behind-the-arc (3-6).
Alecia Doyle led the Redhawks with six points.
The Lions won the rebounding battle in the first 20-minutes by a 23-15 margin, including 10 offensive rebounds.
Jaliyah Green started the third quarter with nine straight points beginning with a free-throw, followed by back-to-back three-point baskets. After a LU jump shot, the Redhawks would respond with a
Kiyley Flowers steal and a throw ahead to Green who would finish the layup.
The Redhawks trailed, 35-29, as the Lions took a timeout. Green, who finished the first half, had a game-high 13 points at the third quarter media break.
A pair of
Alecia Doyle free-throws at the 4:11 mark would get the Redhawks to within four, the closest they had been since trailing by one early in the first quarter.
A quick 5-0 run by the Lions put them back up, 43-35, as the third quarter was winding down, but the Redhawks would not go quietly.
A
Megan Barton jumper followed by a
Kiyley Flowers corner three got the Redhawks back within six, 46-40, with just over a minute to play in the third.
The Lions would sink a pair of free-throws and led 48-40 going to the final quarter.
Alecia Doyle opened the scoring in the fourth quarter with a pair of free-throws, cutting the Lions lead to just 48-42, but Lindenwood would use 19 fourth quarter points to pull away from SEMO who scored just 13 points in the fourth.
The Redhawks will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 3, when Western Illinois comes to town. Tip-off is set for 1:30 p.m., CT. from the Show-Me Center.
