PADUCAH, Ky. - Southeast Missouri (0-1) opened its 2024 spring season with a 5-2 loss to former Ohio Valley Conference member Belmont (2-0) Friday afternoon at the McCracken County High School indoor tennis facility.
Daniela Hlacikova and Juliette Talieu teamed up to earn SEMO's only win in doubles play. Hlacikova and Talieu took care of Mariia Hlahola and Anastasiya Zholdakova, 6-4, in the No. 1 position.
In singles action, Trinity Calinescu and Lera Valeeva each won a point with victories at the No. 2 and No. 6 spots, respectively. Calinescu defeated Zholdakova in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2, and Valeeva, after dropping her first set, battled back to beat Hana Sokolovic, 6-4, 6-1.
The other four singles matchups were won by the Bruins in straight sets.
At No. 1, Hlacikova dropped a 6-2, 6-1, decision to Hlahola. At No. 3, Talieu fell to Vesa Gjinaj, 7-6 (5), 6-3. Maja Bajorek came up short against Abi Soloman by scores of 6-3, 7-5, at No. 4. And, Viktoria Kliimand got past Vivian Lai, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 5.
SEMO remains in Paducah to face another former OVC member in Murray State Saturday. Start time is slated for 2 p.m., CT.
