Redhawks Trek to Carbondale to Face Salukis Sunday
Southeast Missouri women's soccer (1-1-1) will continue the 2023 season on Sunday when they travel to Carbondale, Ill. to take on Southern Illinois (1-1-1). Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m., CT. at Lew Hartzog Track and Field Complex.Â

The Redhawks and Salukis will meet for just the third time on the soccer pitch between the two with the series split at one game apiece.Â

Last season, SIU won the lone matchup of the season with a 1-0 victory in Cape Girardeau.Â

Southeast Missouri women's soccer (1-1-1) played to a 0-0 draw on Thursday night against Evansville (0-0-2) in front of a crowd of 386 at Houck Field.

Five different Redhawks registered a shot in the contest including

SEMO outshot the Purple Aces 11-6 after trailing in shots at the halftime break (3-2).

SEMO wasted no time registering their first shot of the match within the first five minutes of the game. Freshman
Emily Baker possessed the ball in the box, turned, and fired a shot that was saved by UE goalkeeper Myia Danek.Â

Baker made her second-straight start of the 2023 season and finished the match with 60-minutes played. She finished with five shots with two on-target to lead the Redhawks in the categories.

Scouting the Opponent
Southern Illinois is coming off a 1-1 tie against Kansas City. Kaitlin DuCharme scored the Salukis' only goal.

The Salukis notched five shots with two on goal against Kansas City.Â

DuCharme, a fifth-year senior, leads the Salukis in goals and shots on goal with two. She also has registered four shots on the season.Â

Southern Illinois has 25 shots on the season with seven of them on target and they have three goals. McKensey Bunch has one goal and DuCharme has the other two.

The Salukis finished with an overall record of 8-5-4 and 5-2-3 in conference play during the 2022 campaign.

Emma Spotak is returning to the team as a fifth-year senior. Spotak was named to second team All-Conference as a forward last season.Â

Spotak and Kaitlin DuCharme were the Salukis second leading scorers of last season. Spotak registered three goals, one assist, and ten shots on goal while DuCharme had three goals and 11 shots on goal.Â

Graeme Orr will be leading Southern Illinois as head coach this season. Orr spent the last 12 seasons as head coach of West Alabama. During his time at West Alabama Orr has had 11 straight postseason appearances, 33 All-Conference selections, and two Conference Player of the Year winners.Â

The Redhawks will return to action in one week as the squad will travel to Big 10-member Iowa for a matchup in Iowa City, Iowa. First kick is slated for 1 p.m., CT. on Sunday, September 3.Â
