SEMO Soccer starts postseason play in the OVC tournament Thursday against Southern Indiana. The game will be played by host Eastern Illinois in Charleston, Illinois.Â
First Matchup
This will be the second matchup between the Screaming Eagles and the Redhawks. USI topped SEMO in the first matchup this year 2-1. Both Southern Indiana goals came on penalty kicks in the 26
th minute and the 79
th minute.
Hayley Hogenmiller scored the lone SEMO goal on a brilliant one-touch strike from outside of the 18-yard box in the 76
th minute to tie the game at the time. SEMO was limited to seven shots with three on target and
Madison Geisler made five saves.Â
Last week
In their last regular season game, the Redhawks needed either a win or a draw to secure a spot in the OVC tournament. SEMO went on the road to Morehead State and after a game full of activity, the Redhawks got the point they needed to in a 0-0 draw.Â
Included in the game,
Madison Geisler made three saves including a stunning save on a header which she got a hand on, it hit off of the crossbar, and the defense was able to clear it away. SEMO outshot the Eagles 17-8 and only allowed the Eagles to have two shots on goal.Â
SEMO had some quality chances to score as well including shots on goal from
Hayley Hogenmiller and
Laia Amat.
OVC Tournament
SEMO earned the 8
th seed into the OVC tournament. The game will be played at Eastern Illinois because they earned the fourth seed, and the winner of the match will return to Charleston to face EIU Sunday.Â
Tennessee Tech won the leagues regular season on the final day ahead of Little Rock. The other first round match SIUE against UT Martin will be played at the No. 3 seed Lindenwood.Â
SEMO OVC Tournament History
All-time SEMO is 17-16-7 in the OVC tournament. The Squads first OVC tournament game was played in 1999 also in Charleston, Illinois where it played Morehead State and won 2-0, before losing to No. 1 seeded Eastern Illinois 2-1 in the semifinals. In neutral site games SEMO is 8-6-2 and this will be the first OVC tournament matchup between Southern Indiana and SEMO.Â
Last season, SEMO opened its OVC tournament as the No. 7 seed and defeated the No. 6 seeded EIU 2-1 in Lindenwood. The Redhawks would go on to lose 4-0 in the quarterfinals against Lindenwood, who would win the tournament.
SEMO is looking for its third OVC tournament title and are 2-4 in the OVC championship game in its history.Â
OVC Play

The Redhawks finished the OVC regular season totaling eight points. In conference matches the Redhawks outscored other teams 9-8. Out of the eight goals the team allowed, three have come in the first held and five in the second half. The Redhawks have also scored five second half goals in conference play. Despite only allowing three goals SEMO is getting outshot 63-34 in the first half but are outshooting their opponents 54-51 in the second half of games.Â

Madison Geisler has also made 25 saves across the nine conference games and the team's leading scorer in conference play was
Hayley Hogenmiller with four goals and one assist for nine points.Â
