CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri (26-28, 14-9 OVC) dropped game two of the series with Eastern Illinois (32-18, 12-11 OVC) by a final score of 7-2 at Capaha Field Friday afternoon.
The Redhawks, who trailed the entire way, cut EIU's three run lead to just one in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Jevon Mason reached on a bases loaded fielder's choice to score the Redhawks first run, as the bases remained loaded after a throwing error on EIU's short stop Robby Taul.
Peyton Leeper drew a bases loaded walk to plate the second and final run for the Redhawks with one out in the inning as a strikeout and groundout ended the scoring threat.
After seven innings, the Panthers led 3-2.
EIU got on the board first in the first inning with an RBI single to left field by Kolten Poorman off RHP
Collin Wilma who got the start in Friday's contest.
Wilma finished the day going 6.0 innings allowing three runs on five hits and recorded a season-high seven strikeouts. He took the loss in the contest falling to 3-2 on the season.
The Panthers scored two more in the fourth, and two more in the eighth and ninth inning(s) to take the series victory.
The Redhawks offense finished with just six hits by six different players in the contest.
Mason and Leeper recorded the only RBis for the Redhawks' offense.
Game three of the series with EIU will take place tomorrow, Saturday May 20, at 2 p.m., CT. in the final game of the 2023 season at Capaha Field.
