ST. CHARLES, Mo. – A four-run second inning propelled Southeast Missouri (22-9, 14-1) to a 5-3 win over Lindenwood (13-22, 5-7) Saturday afternoon at the Lou Brock Sports Complex.
SEMO picked up its 11th-straight Ohio Valley Conference win and 12
th victory in 13 games.
Aubrie Shore led off SEMO's big second inning with a double to left and quickly scored on an ensuing single by
Kynzie Wrigley.
Abigail Rickermann followed with a base hit and
Jillian Anderson later reached on a two-out infield single to load the bases.
Paige Halliwill cleared the bases with a triple to center giving the Redhawks a 4-0 advantage.
LU cut SEMO's lead in half when it scored twice in the bottom of the second.
The Redhawks tacked on one more run when Halliwill singled home Rickermann in the sixth inning.
Paytience Holman (4-5) was credited with the win in relief. Holman entered the game in the third inning and allowed just one run in five innings. She also struck out one.
SEMO and LU both finished with nine hits.
Halliwill went 2-for-3 with four RBI, while Rickermann and Shore also added two hits each.
In game two, the Redhawks built a 9-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning when the game was suspended due to inclement weather. SEMO and LU will finish that game at 2 p.m., CT Sunday before the series finale.
