Track & FIeld Set to Commence 2023 Outdoor Season Friday & Saturday At South Alabama

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo - Southeast Missouri State Track and Field will begin the 2023 Outdoor Season this weekend as they travel to Mobile, Alabama to compete in the South Alabama Invite at Jaguar Track, Friday, March 17 - Saturday, March 18. 
 
On Friday, the meet is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. with the men's hammer throw (women's to follow) and will end with the Men's 3000-meter at 6:20 p.m.
 
Saturday the meet will begin with senior recognition at 9:30 a.m. with men's discus being the first event at 10:00 a.m. The meet will conclude with the 4x400m relay Saturday afternoon.  
 
2022 Outdoor Season Recap
Last season the Southeast Missouri men's track & field secured the 2022 Outdoor Ohio Valley Conference Track & Field Championship with 241 total points.
 
The women's team finished second with 156.50 points, behind Murray State who had 199 points.
 
Last outdoor season, SEMO competed in nine meets before the 2022 Outdoor Championships.
 
The Redhawk men totaled 18 medals over the three-day outdoor championship last season, including six golds, seven silver and five bronze.
 
Marysa Flieg won gold in the women's javelin, posting a mark of 148-4 (45.22m) 
 
Shea DeGraaf won gold in the Decathlon with 6,501 points while Isaac Readnour grabbed silver with a personal best 6,199 points.
 
Dylan Clark grabbed silver with a heave of 196-7 (59.91m) in the hammer throw. 
 
Marshall Swadley threw for a distance of 189-5 (57.73m) for bronze in the hammer throw. 
 
Serena Williams won silver in the long jump competition, registering a career-best mark of 18-11.75 (5.78m).
 
Luke Hatfield-Jackson earned the silver medal in the long jump 24-11.75 (7.61m). Hatfield-Jackson also won gold with a feat of 7-0.25 (2.14m) in the high jump. 
 
Terrico Garrett grabbed the gold medal in the 800-meter with a time of 1:53.31.
 
Laila Hardin earned gold in the 400-meter hurdles with a career best time of 1:01.70.
 
Taylor Fox took the top spot on the podium in the women's 1,500 meters. Fox crossed the finish line at 4:34.55.
 
Markeith Crawford earned silver in the 800-meter with a career-best mark of 1:54.07.
 
Brock Wood achieved silver in the men's 400-meter hurdles. Wood completed the event in 53.53.
 
The Redhawks were awarded five awards last season, Marysa Flieg won Female Co-Freshman of the Year and Nicole Humphreys won Female Co-Field Athlete of the Year.  
 
Logan Blomquist won Male Field Athlete of the Year. Shea Degraaf won Male Athlete of the Championship and head coach Eric Crumpecker won Men's Coach of the Year.
 
2023 Indoor Season Recap
The Redhawks competed in the OVC Indoor Track and Field championships February 22-23.
 
The women's track and field team won its eighth title with 183.50 total points and the men's team finished in third place with 128 total points
 
The Redhawks won five awards in the indoor season. Taylor Fox won the Female Athlete of the Championship and Female Track Athlete of the Year. Luke Hatfield-Jackson won Field Athlete of the Year. 
 
Tanner Koontz won Male Freshman of the Year and Head coach Eric Crumpecker was selected as the OVC Women's Coach of the Year.
 
SEMO finished with nine first place finishes, 29 top-three finishes, and seven new personal bests over the two day indoor championships. 
 
Looking Ahead
Following the South Alabama Invite the Southeast Missouri track and field team will travel to Starkville, Mississippi to compete in the Mississippi State Invite. The event will be held at Spencer Stadium and Carl Maddox Track March 23-25.
