Redhawks Overpower UT Southern, 7-0

NASHVILLE – Southeast Missouri (9-2) recorded its fourth shutout in five matches when it made light work of UT Southern with a commanding 7-0 victory Monday.

SEMO, which is red-hot winning eight-straight matches, picked up its fifth shutout in 11 bouts this spring.

Not one Redhawk lost a set in the matchup. In fact, four of the six players in SEMO's singles lineup didn't even allow a point.

Daniela Hlacikova (No. 1), Vivian Lai (No. 4), Trinity Calinescu (No. 5) and Teona Velkoska (No. 6) each won by 6-0, 6-0, scores. Romana Tarajova then defeated Margaret Lucas, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 2 and Ksenia Shikanova beat Emely Castro, 6-2, 6-2, for the other singles victories.

Tarajova and Shikanova took care of Margaret Lucas and Abbey Rumble, 6-2, at No. 1 doubles. Meanwhile, Hlacikova and Velkoska upended Otone Odajima and Yen-Ju Chang, 6-3, and Lai and Calinescu teamed up to beat Castro and Leovanna Viamonte, 6-2, to sweep the doubles point.

SEMO, the defending Ohio Valley Conference Tournament Champions, begins league play at Lindenwood on Mar. 19.
