Redhawks Travel to Big 10-Member Purude for Midweek Matchup
Southeast Missouri Women's Basketball (2-5) will continue non-conference action on Wednesday, December 6, when they hit the road for West Lafayette, Ind. for a matchup with Big 10 conference member, Purdue (5-3). Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. from Mackey Arena.Â

SEMO and Purdue will meet for just the second time overall in the schools' history on Wednesday evening, and the first time they have met since 2007. Purdue holds a 1-0 series advantage over the Redhawks following a 51-41 Purdue victory on Dec. 2, 2007, from Mackey Arena.Â

Wednesday's matchup will take place inside of historical Mackey Arena where the Lady Boilermakers have played for the last 49 seasons. Coming into the 23-24 season, Purdue has accumulated a 491-176 overall record inside the facility, including a 245-105 record in conference play.Â

Indiya Bowen was tied for first, with Chattanooga's Hannah Kohn, in NCAA Women's Basketball three-point percentage. Bowen, a freshman from Nesbit, Miss., entered Saturday's matchup with Missouri shooting 60-percent from behind-the-arc and was coming off a perfect 4-for-4 shooting performance against Harris-Stowe (11/28).Â

Julia Sion finished with a Southeast Missouri career-high 10 points on five-for-11 shooting (.455). The Port Arthur, Texas-native also reeled in six rebounds, just one shy of tying her SEMO career-high (7).Â

Southeast Missouri has been pesky on the defensive end of the floor through the first seven games of the season. SEMO has forced 139 turnovers, registered 58 steals, and have 18 blocks on the season. Opponents are averaging just 74 points-per-game, including two games against Power 5 opponents.Â

Daejah Richmond led all Redhawks in several categories including 10 points, seven rebounds, and four assists off the bench for SEMO in the contest.Â

Six of Richmond's 10 points came from behind the three-line. The Cordova, Tenn.-native came into Saturday's contest without a three in the first six games, she finished 2-of-3 from behind-the-arc.Â

SEMO struggled offensively shooting just 27-percent from the field (16-60) and just 19-percent from three-point range (5-27).Â

Defensively, the Redhawks continued to be solid as they forced 13 MU turnovers, including eight in the opening 20-minutes.
Kiyley Flowers finished with a team-high three steals. SEMO converted the turnovers into 13 points.

Abbigail Stephens made her first career start in a SEMO uniform on Saturday as she finished with seven points, on 3-of-7 shooting, and knocked down just her second three-pointer of the season in 17:15 of action.Â

Missouri finished the contest shooting an impressive 56-percent from the field and nearly 35-percent from three-point land as four Tigers finished in double-digits. MU was led offensively by forward Haley Frank who finished with 18 points on 7-of-9 shooting.Â

On Tuesday, Nov. 27, the Redhawks hosted Harris-Stowe to begin the week of competition and scored a season-high 86 points to beat the Hornets, 86-48, at the Show-Me Center in Cape Girardeau.Â

Jaliyah Green and
Indiya Bowen led the way for the Redhawks offensively scoring 17 and 14 points, respectively, to help SEMO remain undefeated at home in 2023-24.Â

The duo combined for 10-of-21 from the floor and 5-for-6 from behind the three-point line. Bowen finished a perfect four-for-four from behind the arc, a career-best three-point percentage (1.000).Â

SEMO dominated the entire way as the Redhawks finished 33-for-71 from the field (47-percent) and a season-high 47-percent from three-point land in the contest.Â

The Redhawks were able to force 34 Harris-Stowe turnovers and converted those into 26 fastbreak points as six Redhawks finished with three or more steals, led by Bowen and Green with four each.Â

Daejah Richmond finished the game with six points on 3-of-5 shooting. She snagged five total rebounds, three on the offensive end of the floor, and dished out five assists in 18 minutes of action.Â

Senior forward
Julia Sion had a nice impact off the bench for the Redhawks as she finished with 10 points, a season and SEMO career-high, as she was 5-for-11 from the field and pulled down six rebounds.Â

The Redhawks utilized their depth once again in Tuesday's contest, scoring 40 points off the bench led by
Indiya Bowen (14) and
Kiyley Flowers (12).Â

Flowers, who registered a new season-high, finished five-for-seven from the floor and two-for-two from the free throw line in 22 minutes of game time.

Scouting the Opponent
Purdue
Purdue is coming off of a 83-56 win against Valparaiso where they shot 49.1% from the field, 33.3% from three point land, and 79.2% from the free throw line. The Boilermakers are now winners of three straight.Â

Against Vaparaiso, Mary Ashley Stevenson recorded her first double-double of the season with 14 points and ten rebounds. Stevenson also added two blocks and one assist.

Freshman Rashunda Jones led the Boilermakers in scoring dropping 22 points shooting 6-9 from the field.

Abbey Ellis is leading Purdue in points per game this season averaging 15.0 points. Ellis has 120 points, 29 rebounds, 17 assists, and a team high 11 steals this season.Â

Fifth-year senior Jeanae Terry has notched 49 rebounds and 43 assists this year, both team highs.Â
