Southeast Missouri women's soccer (6-5-3, 2-3-2 OVC) will hit the road for the final time in the 2023 regular season to take on Southern Indiana (4-6-6, 3-1-3 OVC) on Thursday evening. First kick is slated for 7 p.m., CT. at Strassweg Field in Evansville, Ind.Â
Â
Series HistoryÂ
The Redhawks and Screaming Eagles met for the first time in the programs' history in 2022 after USI made the jump from NCAA Division II to Division I, joining the Ohio Valley Conference a season ago.Â
Â
The Redhwaks lead the series 1-0-0 after downing USI last season by a final score of 1-0 on Oct. 20 in Cape Girardeau, Mo.Â
Â
League Table
As the season winds down, with just two matches remaining in regular season play, the Ohio Valley Conference table is tightly contested.Â
Â
Tennessee Tech (6-0-1 OVC) currently sits atop the table with 19 points. Morehead State (4-1-2 OVC) is in second with 14 points followed by Southern Indiana (3-1-3, OVC | 12 points), SIUE (3-1-3 OVC | 12 points) tied for third, and UT Martin (2-2-3 OVC | nine points) in fourth place.
Â
SEMO sits in fifth place with just eight points with matches against USI and UT Martin remaining.Â
Â
The OVC Tournament will begin next Friday and Sunday with the first round and quarterfinal matchups. Location and time TBA after the conclusion of the regular season.Â
Â
Last Time Out
Last Sunday, SEMO battled with league-leading Tennessee Tech at Houck Field, but fell 1-0 to the Golden Eagles.Â
Â
Senior midfielder
Emma Brune was selected as the Player of the Match playing the entire 90-minutes, registering two shots with one on-target.Â
Â
SEMO was outshot by TTU, 9-6, including a 7-3 disadvantage in shots-on-goal. Brune and
Emily Baker led the Redhawks with two shots each.Â
Â
Six Redhawks played the entire 90-minute match including the entire back line of
Natalie Jackson,
Maddie Paulson, and
Alayna Jakul. Midfielders
Zoe Houston,
Emma Brune, and goalkeeper
Sophia Elfrink played every minute of Sunday's contest.Â
Â
Elfrink finished the match with six saves total, two in the first half and four in the second, allowing just one goal in the contest.Â
Â
Tennessee Tech controlled possession for most of the match, out possessing the Redhawks 55-percent to 45-percent.
Â
TTU scored their goal 10-minutes into the second half.  A corner kick, setup by a good bit of attacking play, from Yao Giada Zhou found the head of Neve Renwick right in front of SEMO's goal.Â
Â
Renwick headed it into the top right corner of the net to beat Elfrink for the game-winning goal.Â
Â
SEMO's best chance of the contest came from redshirt senior
Megan Heisserer late in the first half. A stumble in the TTU backline gave Heisserer the ball one-on-one with TTU goalkeeper Maggie Conrad.Â
Â
Heisserer fired it low and hard as Conrad recorded one of her three saves. She finished with three saves in the full 90-minute match.Â
