NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Ben Palmer and
Andrew Keck each hit a home run, but Belmont (28-15, 10-4) used a three-run eighth inning to eke out a 5-3 win over Southeast Missouri (29-12, 12-5) Saturday afternoon at E.S. Rose Park.
After Palmer hit a solo home run to give SEMO a 3-2 edge in the top of the eighth, BEL answered with a run-scoring single by Logan Jarvis and two-run home run by Jack Capobianco to seal the victory.
SEMO took a quick lead with two outs in the top of the first inning.
Tyler Wilber doubled to left center and scored on an ensuing single by Keck to grab the Redhawks a 1-0 advantage.
After BEL tied the game in the bottom of the third, Keck hit a solo home run to regain a 2-1 edge for SEMO in the top of the fourth. It was the second time Keck homered in the series.
The Bruins again tied things up in the bottom of the seventh where a pair of walks and two-out RBI-single by Guy Lipscomb made it a 2-2 contest.
Kyle Miller (7-4) took the loss in relief. Miller worked 2.1 innings with two strikeouts and two walks. He gave up four runs on four hits, as well.
Dusty Baird (1-1) picked up his first win after giving up one hit in one scoreless inning.
Offensively, SEMO had seven hits with six coming from the middle of its lineup. Keck, Wilber and
Ty Stauss had two apiece.
The Redhawks and Bruins close out their series at 1 p.m., CT Sunday.
